Best Oil for Startup of Rebuilt Engine - Recommend

I know this subject has come up before, but it seems that that things are changing every day.

I'll be starting my 1275 engine soon. What is the best Oil to use for Startup, how many miles, and then what should I use on a dail basis. It's for my '59 BE.

Can't wait to hear VROOM VROOM.

I use Valvoline VR1, it has ZDDP in it, changed it after 500, and replaced with the same stuff.
 
regular oil should be used...we had a huge discussion on it, and decided that the new fancy stuff wasnt good for old
cars and could cause seal leaks etc. because of its molecular composition...blah blah blah ....
saying all that, im a big fan of Castrol syntech blend, but only in my truck...
id run it a few miles and then change it to get all the old gunk rinsed out...add some "seafoam" once u get running...great stuff! .....zimmmy
 
Directly from the words of guys that build these many times. Use Rotella T 30 wt for first 1/2 hr of run time. Ive heard they lower the Zinc in it and asked but was told this is the only stuff to use. I than run VR-1 as well. Zinc based oils are good for new cams and thrust washers and what not.

Your reg. Castrol GTX 20W50 is fine as long as you add either GM ESO or Lucas Oil ZDDP additive!!!

Been doing so on my customers' cars for a tad over 2 years and all is well. 1/2 a jug of Lucas to each oil change thereafter! :thumbsup:

Oill has become more of a science experiment than oil these days. I know a guy that has been doing lots of dyno testing using lots of different oils. He swears by Brad Penn for older engines. I'll hunt down some of his info and post it.
