Best laid plans of mice and men... Steinbeck...

Re: Best laid plans of mice and men... Steinbeck..

Tom,

Yeah, that's why I don't drive my Lamborghini and only drive my Ferrari to the bank.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

Now for something completely....irrelevant.

Scottish poet Robert Burns wrote the line: "The best-laid schemes o' mice an' men Gang aft agley," in his work "To a Mouse" in 1785.

Steinbeck then made reference to this poem by using a portion of it for the title of his work: "Of Mice and Men", in 1937.

To my knowledge, Steinbeck did not include the line (or any of its modernized versions) within his book. Therefore, I do not believe Steinbeck said: "the best laid plans...."

Maybe this is why I never had friends as a child.

Lawguy,

The quote by Burns is correctly attributed to him... no slight was intended.... and, as you indicated the quote is referenced and attributed to Burns in Stienbeck's novel on the inside cover of the older hardbound copies....of which I have an early printing...

Perhaps I should have indicated a paraphrase???

And to be even more cerebral ...

nurny, nurny... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

Lawguy...

Not at all my friend... If the only thing that we talked about was LBCs, then a problem would we have....

Besides, Both of my children are studying for the LSATS... One with two BS degrees (Political Science) and one a practicing Forensics Analsyt with a BS in Molecular and Cellular Developmental Biology....

How can I argue with a Lawyer...

Hello Ronzet,

Re: Best laid plans of mice and men... Steinbeck..

OK, OK, OK...

piman, and lawguy... quite simply.. I used a reference to the well known John Steinbeck novel 'Of Mice and Men' as the lead in to my post...refering to the proclivity of all plans to 'go awry'.... I apologize to Burns, Steinback, and to any reader who took umbrage with its use in the form I chose.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif
