"Best" interior gubbons

Howdy,

I have a few old British machines, but one I'll never part with is my '63 MGB:

I bought this car from the original owner's best friend, and still have every piece of paper on the car from the dealer's invoice on down.

It still only has 85,000 miles on it, though it had a "quickie restore" in Tijuana (!) in 1973, with new bright white paint (over the OEW) and slightly weird vinyl seats in the original style.

There's a bit of rust despite it being a San Diego car, but nothing absolutely terminal. It's nice and tight and drives very well. The car number is around 10,500. The engine bay is absolutely original.

I've been collecting parts to convert it to overdrive (I keep anything I pull off of any car, though some of the junk that came off my E-Type went into the bin!), and need to pull the motor and transmission anyway as the engine leaks like a sieve and there is zero syncromesh left on second gear.

While the engine et al is out, the interior, especially those oddball seats, needs a light refurb. The carpet on the transmission tunnel has worn through, too, and since I much prefer a red interior with a white car, I'm contemplating changing the color. (Rubber floors, sills, etc. obviously stay put.)

1) Is this sacrilege? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif A white car with a black interior just seems so...teutonic.

2) Who (if anyone) sells the most accurate interior gubbons for an early MGB? I don't mind paying a bit more if the materials are absolutely accurate. Or should I just go Moss and tough it out?

All I can offer is my experience with Moss interiors. I installed a full kit in my '65 B, black with white piping. THe quality was very high and I am quite pleased. It has held up well. However the door cap rails were extremely expensive and did not fit properly. Moss made things right and gave me a refund, then halted production until they could figure out what was going on. They may have fixed the problem by now.

I personally don't care for red interiors but it's your car and you obviously don't care about resale value since you don't plan to sell, so do with it as you like! I think it's the red carpet I've never been fond of. Perhaps black carpet with red seats, tonneau and top would be nice. Not too overpowering.

Welcome

For white with a red interior... Get an italian car (but keep that pretty B). /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Welcome, Greenbank! Red leather would look fantastic. Go for it!!

Come to think of it, red MG leather would look good in there... maybe with white piping too?
