I was at Elkhart Lake a few years ago, and saw a beautiful ice blue 3.0CSL for sale. $7500.00, and drive it home. I don't know what I was thinking, but I let it get away.

I've been watching the 3.0 CS prices (just curiosity) for several months and the asking (or reserve) prices are all over the place, but not many selling. I drive over the Sierra Mts. twice a week to Reno (200 mile rt each trip) and would love to have one in the nicer weather. I'm sure it's a very different ball game as far as restoration costs. I like getting the door fit 'just right' when you have only one door.

Did anyone mention the Porsche 928 series? Also, the BMW 850 series would seem to pass our "GT" class quite well. Both feature multi-valve V/8 powerplants, good handling, and suspensions that won't rattle your teeth out.

Absolutely sexy and (very) fast cars to drive, pretty good road manners as well. Not a lot of space for luggage, but who cares about luggage when you're driving a beautiful car like that, anyway???

I especially like the BMW 850s, but I wouldn't turn either down for a long touring trip.

FYI While I'm a huge fan of the BMW 8 series (as well as the 928 /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif ). But the 850 had a V12 and the 840 had the V8.
 
I drove a 2002 Vette Convertible from Ft Walton Beach, FL to Tampa Bay, FL and back over the Holidays. I must say that I was pleasantly surprised at how comfortable I was for the entire trip. I felt like I had just got in the car after driving for 5.5 - 6 hours, and my ears weren't ringing from wind noise...
 
The best GT ride I ever had was in a '70's MGBGT automatic. It would cruse at 120, no noise and smooth as glass. I have driven many, many Ferraris and found nothing to write home about; with perhaps one exception: Ron Tonkin's purple Lusso.

hehehehehe...I think its funny that after 5 pages, we're right back where we started: MGC GT w/automatic!!

(Oh, y'day I followed a wrecker with an MGC GT on it to a dinky little shop - turned out to be a '68 w/automatic....mechanic said its his brother-in-law's & he's gonna 'get it running' so his b-i-l can restore it...then he asked me, "Where can I get parts for an MGB? He can't afford to restore this car."....well, you know who's card he has...hehehe...& Monday I'll drop off a Moss catalog....who wants to bet that before the summer is over I'll own a '68 MGC GT w/auto to go along with my '69 MGC GT w/auto & my '68 MGC roadster?)

Andy, no MGB will <u>cruise</u> at 120 MPH - do you mean kph? An MGB GT with 4 speed will achieve about 105 MPH top end. The automatic was a bit slower.

The MGC automatic uses a Borg Warner unit. Parts at your local auto parts house. It was my company car for two years. Dealer I worked for could not sell it so might as well drive it.
