TR6 Best cam for a TR6

The Triumph Inline 6 engines and the Herald/Spitfire engines are all part of the same engine family known as the Vitesse series of engines. They all share the same roots so there is a lot of crossover in their designs and some limited interchangeability.

You may already have considered it, but most machine shops might have trouble line boring the TR6 block for cam bearings because of the length of the block (longer than most V8's etc...). Just another thing to keep in mind anyway. A very well equipped machine shop should have no problem.

vette,

That was assembly lube of some sort. I know the block was cleaned after that one last time before the engine was assembled, so it was probably for fitting the cam bearings or possibly for test fitting the cam to the bearings before final assembly.

My block was done by Polk Diesel here in Madison. They actually had to use a hone because of this very problem. They had to shut down periodically because of the heat buildup so it took about 8 hours to complete the job.

In my opinion, not cheap but I am really glad I did it.

I always found that the best cam for a car was the one you should have put in instead of the one you did.

That is usually the case Don. But every car and driver are different so there really isn't any one "right" cam for these cars.

Basically that's what I was implying Paul.
thanks
