Looking for an affordable cam. A little better performance than stock would be nice but not absolutely necessary. I've run a 1275 with a performance cam and didn't really care for it. A 276 Kent I believe.

Looking at APT and Moss, cam's aren't cheap anymore. I don't really need a drilled, lobe oiled, cam but would like one that is good and hard. Not just a local regrind.

Insight appreciated!:D

What cam you buy depends on what you want the engine to do. For my Mini I wanted a cam that would not adversely affect the idle and increased the torque up to a few thousand RPM. I chose the Swiftune SW5.

The SW5 has a good idle and improves torque down low. It pulls nicely from about 1500 RPM on up. It works very well on a street engine. Ordered from Swiftune it costs 182 GBP ($235 + S&H). It's made on a billet, not reground.

If that is too pricey, look up Mini Spares Evolution002 cam. They compare it to the SW5 and it is 74 GBP ($96 + S&H). However, it is made on a reground cam. It is not made from a billet.
 
Don't forget the add the cost of new lifters with a new cam.
 
I am just completing installation of a SW5 cam kit from Swiftune. It includes new tappets (cam followers) along with a new oil pump. I thought it looked like a good deal.
 
Thanks folks....I kinda like the idea of a SW5 from Swiftune as well. Too busy right now to work on it anyway.
