Iv been very busy lately with getting ready for collage and working my current summer job, so i have not had much time to work on my Midget this summer. But yesterday i had off, and instead of going out to party with friends, I decided to take one last shot at starting my MG Midget for the very first time. After an hour or so of following wiring diagrams and tracing back the no-spark problem I had, i finally discovered one of the wires in my distributor was not connected properly. After re-wiring the wire and testing to see that i finally had spark, I hooked up my fuel pump, turned the distributor to near the proper position and turned the engine over. Only cranked about 2 revolutions before my baby that iv been working on for 3 years now, and hasn't whispered a breath of life in over 30 years, Fired right up with a beautiful roar.

That's right. Last night i fired up my 72 Mg midget for the very first time after a complete engine rebuild, along with carbs and ignition system. She ran beautifully smooth. No odd sounds of things tapping or banging or squeaking, only the occasional misfire, and those themselves seemed rare. Im unbelievably happy to have been slowly working on this since i got it when i was 15 and to finally have it running 3 years later. Now its not road worthy yet but i can now concentrate my efforts on getting there.

Now there are still some issues i have to resolve, like my high idle, which i believe may have to do with my possible missing choke cable, And the misfire which i will most likely fix with the electronic ignition swap and further timing adjustment. But im happy to share with you that its just one step closer to turning heads on the road. :cooler:

...video to come soon. If i can ever get time to up load it.

Most excellent. Way to go. I fired mine up and drove it down the driveway after 12 years. Found it forgotten in a garage... Great feeling

Congratulations, What a great day!
My '72 sat 14 years in a Denver garage when I found it. For the first 3 months, I drove up and down our dirt road in Conifer.

Congrats! It is a great feeling. I bought mine from pics off Craigslist, had it trailered down, then set my eyes on it for the first time AFTER I bought it. Took a bit of work, but the first time I got it to start (Petronix ignition took care of it) I was thrilled. Then I drove it to the end of the block, realized I had no brakes, and the real work began!

I bought mine off of Craigslist too, but with no pictures and no clue what i was getting myself into. After my dad picked it up on a trailer and brought it up from Colorado Springs to here in Greeley, i saw it for the first time. If i would have known then what i know now, well i would not have bought the car. But im sure glad i kept it and kept pushing through. Its an awesome hobby that iv started and dont plan on ending any time soon. There's just so much i can do with it.

Same here, but when I got enough into it and realized there is no going back, I pushed on. I found out that the unibody was bent bad enough to render it scrap metal, so I picked up another tub. This summer I will have it blasted and primed. Then time to find a painter, then tub swap. But its fun, it keeps me home and it keeps me out of trouble. And driving it, no matter how it looks, makes me smile. Now if I can make it run again.....

Congratulations on a most awesome event. Your efforts are finally being rewarded. :winner1:

A good friend claims my spridget hobby is good for the enviroment cause it keeps me off the road!!!

Kurt.

I have had the same experience. The "free" Sprite is the most expensive hobby I have taken up. The fun we had showing off all the hard work was worth every penny. Driving up to the local coffee shop and ordering coffee for our drive out to the lake will be a Sunday afternoon must!
