General MG Besides falling in love with my new purchase - I know nothing about MG Midgets

I recently purchased a 1971 MG Midget "Street Machine" and am in need of general information about it. I can't seem to find a picture that looks like mine.

It was in storage for quite some time. It has original paint, original EVERYTHING. Problem is I have been researching for information on it and all the pictures I come across for a 1971 MG does not necessarily look like mine. The hood on mine has latches on the driver side and passenger side and the grill in front is a small oval. The other item is that the paint job is completely different than anything I have seen and it appears to be original.

Fell in love with this car but want to know more about it and can't seem to find the right person to help me.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Beth

Sounds like it was customized to a degree. Also originals had no latches on the outside of the hood. How about some pictures? We could tell more if we could see it. Outside, interior and engine PJ

Welcome to the party, Beth!

While the folks here on the MG side can help, the "Spridget" forum is the best place to post your questions, as it is geared to Midgets and Sprites. It's a very active bunch, and they are ready and willing to help.

Welcome!

I'll second Mikey's recommendation that you pop on over to the Spidget's board (Sprite + Midget = Spridget).

There were a variety of aftermarket bonnets available for Sprites and Midgets. I'm guessing the bonnet on your car looks something like this (this is a Monza bonnet):

Being a non original bonnet, those parking light/turn signals look out of place. I would have flush mounted a set to go with the flow of the smooth lines of the conversion. PJ

I have a true Spridget...63 Midget with a bugeye hood. I have a Sprite owners manual which describes filling the gearbox at a spot under the drivers floormat...but since I actually have a midget can someone tell me where to fill the gearbox...because there's nothing under the floormat...Thanks

Welcome to the party, Dan!

Not sure of an answer for you, as this is the forum where the MGB crowd hangs out. If you'll look down the list you'll see the Spridget section where you can get all the info and camaraderie you need.
