He hit his 756 tonight. I feel sorry for the fans involved in the ball scramble and hope no one was hurt.

I'm a baseball fan, but this record I just can't get enthused about...IMO, it's tainted.

I'm a lifelong baseball fan, but this record is meaningless to me. I have more respect for the everyday players that work hard, play hard every day, and get real, untainted rsults. How will they ever clean up the record books?

Has he ever failed a drug test?

Bonds has always denied knowingly using performance-enhancing drugs.

Note the key word "knowingly"? Some insist his "people" gave stuff to him but he didn't know it. Ya know kind of like admitting smoking pot but insisting that you didn’t actually inhale.

I mean anythings possible. Rigth? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

I didn't intend to own three MGs at 18...

I believe you.

But then what do I know, I've always been told that even if your spouse catches you in bed in the middle of the act with another woman to deny it. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rolleyes.gif

I could care less how many home runs a guy hits - I was just wondering if there was any medical evidence because I'm pretty sure they make him pee in a bottle or something pretty regularly.....

Oh, I intended to own all the MG's I do....hehehehe

I would think he's clean now, it's the hundreds of home runs that he hit from 2 years ago and back that bother me.

Shame how the threat of pending drug testing can screw up a guys run for the home run title. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rolleyes.gif

I have to admit, baseball has completely messed it up. They refused to admit for the longest time that Steroids were a problem. A record is broken by someone who was a great player early on in his career then supposedly uses something to keep him in the game for a couple of years tnen quits using it. Makes for a huge mess. The Pete Rose mess was never handled right either. Pete can't get into the HoF as a player because of what he did as a manager...

There should always be an asterix after Bonds' record stats. Makes it all the more impressive that Henry Aaron was able to set the bar so high.

Well, yes Aaron did hit 755 HRs, but it took him 12,364 ABs (at bats) to do it. Bonds has done it in 9,774 ABs. The real kicker in here is that Babe Ruth hit 714 in 8,398 ABs.

If we extend out the numbers just for fun, and let Bonds and Ruth have 12,364 ABs, then Bonds will wind up with 956 HRs, and Ruth will wind up with 1051 HRs!!

Besides all of the other stats the Ruth has that are close to the top, like his lifetime .342 batting average, he was also a great pitcher. For the five years he was with the Red Sox, had had a 94-46 won/loss record. Started 148 games, while completing 107. And, had a lifetime ERA of 2.28. Incredible!!! He would have gone to the Hall of Fame as a pitcher if he continued in that role.

And, he did all of this swillin' booze, eating immense amount of hot dogs, and chasing women into the night. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/sick.gif Imagine if he took care of himself. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif

Isn't that taking care of yourself?
