There should always be an asterix after Bonds' record stats. Makes it all the more impressive that Henry Aaron was able to set the bar so high.
Well, yes Aaron did hit 755 HRs, but it took him 12,364 ABs (at bats) to do it. Bonds has done it in 9,774 ABs. The real kicker in here is that Babe Ruth hit 714 in 8,398 ABs.
If we extend out the numbers just for fun, and let Bonds and Ruth have 12,364 ABs, then Bonds will wind up with 956 HRs, and Ruth will wind up with 1051 HRs!!
Besides all of the other stats the Ruth has that are close to the top, like his lifetime .342 batting average, he was also a great pitcher. For the five years he was with the Red Sox, had had a 94-46 won/loss record. Started 148 games, while completing 107. And, had a lifetime ERA of 2.28. Incredible!!! He would have gone to the Hall of Fame as a pitcher if he continued in that role.
And, he did all of this swillin' booze, eating immense amount of hot dogs, and chasing women into the night. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/sick.gif Imagine if he took care of himself. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif
