Anyone catch the Belgian Grand Prix from Spa-Francorchamps this morning? Exceptionally good race. Wheel-to-wheel, rain, and leadership/podium changes in the last two laps. Would that they were all this good...

Just saw that the stewards took the win from Hamilton for cutting a chicane, but that one's going to appeal. Regardless, it was some great racing.

I have been a fan of F1 for over 30 years, but that stewards' enquiry has put me off completely. It seems that the FIA only want Ferrari to do well for some reason.

I'm a long-time tifosi, Nick, and I'd be hard-pressed to disagree with you on this. Hamilton gave up the position as per the regs, and then passed Kimi fair and square. This kind of post-race trackside regulation removes the incentive to compete. Simply line up on the starting grid and parade for fifty laps...

I don't normally jump up and down or shout while watching any sporting event but the last two laps at Spa was spectacular. I agree with Sean that Hamilton gave back the position but the stewarts apparently believe he did not give it up long enough!

F1 is the best it has been in many years, for sure prior to the rise of Schumacher.

That was almost worth keeping the Speed channel. One of the best F1 races I've watched in a while. Is Hamilton smooth or what?

If his run at Silverston (in the rain) is anything to judge him by, Hamilton is amazing. He managed to keep it together in the rain on slicks at Spa.

I can understand the stewards decision though, and it's unlikely they'll reconsider. He gained a slight avantage by blowing through the chicane. You could see he wasn't going to make the chicane, and the result was that he passed Kimi, and ended up in a perfect drafting area directly behind him.

Had he fallen back a little farther, I suspect he could have avoided the issue. That said, racing rules assume ideal conditions, and in ideal conditions, Hamilton wouldn't have blown through the chicane. It can be argued that it was the weather that was responsible for the advantage given to Hamilton.

Either way, I don't feel that he acted unsportsmanlike. Nor did it matter to the end result, since Kimi managed to make two mistakes following his pass by Hamilton.

Agreed, as far as Kimi is concerned, though you have to believe that Massa and the factory were doing the dance of joy when this was announced.

Sadly, I think that moves like this reinforce the perception that the FIA manipulate the outcomes - at a minimum, in an effort to keep interest in the championship high. Worse, the sense that they're predisposed to certain teams.

That said, I think you're right - unlikely that they'll reverse this...

Lewis won.

Lewis followed the rulez after the chicane pass by fading back and Kimi was allowed the lead... briefly.

Kimi was reacting in a "red fog" and went off. DNF. Period.

FIA and Bernie can go... err... well, Lewis WON.

I used to think they call'd it ~RACING~. :wall:
