Better lait than never......

As for these pastries, are they like doughnuts? They do look interesting, and I have never even seen 'em before.

Imagine, if you will, an extremely light, airy, deep fried pastry that is basically doughnut batter, deep fried, and as you can see, blasted with powdered sugar. Served right out of the deep fryer! Only the natives can eat 'em without getting the powder all over the place!

Cafe du Monde is a great place, for sure, but many of us preferred Morning Call, before it moved out to Metairie.

Morning Call

Either way, it was 24 hours a day, every day!

Yeah, but I'll be sitting in Cafe du Monde Friday morning, relaxing with beignets & coffee, watching French Quarter life go by & listening to some good music!

Noir comme le Diable;
Fort comme la Mort;
Doux comme l'Amour;
Et chaud comme l'Enfer.

MAN! My French is nil, I'm ashamed to say, but I see "Black like the devil, strong(?) like death, ---- like love, and hot as inferno!"

Incidentally, my Cajun uncle Paul Barre' told me, probably jokingly, that our last name, Richaud, could be translated "hot rice" - works for me!

REF: Jimmy Buffett, "The Wino and I Know"... :laugh:

Is this what you mean, Doc?

Black as the Demon;
Extremely as Death;
Mild person as Love;
And the heat as heck

<span style="font-style: italic">as they say..."</span>

Tom posted th' French (I'd never stoop to such a thing :wink: ), I was thinkin' of:

"Th' cafe is strong at th' Cafe du Monde
donuts are too hot to touch...

But just like a fool, when those sweet goodies cool
I eat 'til I eat way too much.

'Cause I'm livin' on things that excite me
be they pastry or lobster or love..."
