I'm starting to put all the "bits" onto the reco'd engine before I put it back into the car.

I've put in a new clutch and pressure plate, and was wondering whether there is anything else I should replace before I put it back? I'd hate to have to take the engine out again because I missed some sort of seal or something.

Does look good! I changed the motor mounts at the same time. Also assuming you aren't using the air pump and pollution stuff, you can take off the oil filter adapter and just run the filter straight into the block. Finally, though this isn't strictly engine install related, the sooner you fit the oil pressure hard line the happier you will be - don't ask me how I know. In that vein, installing brake lines first (if you haven't already)will make your life easier.
 
You took the speedometer cable out with the engine! That's genius! I always try to install it once the engine is back in the car. What a pain!

+1 on that. I would have never done that. sucker is a real pain to put back on once in the car.

Throw out bearing I hope.
 
Thanks everyone. I will have to revisit that pivot pin - I looked at the throw out bearing and just the fact I had to press it out sort of "scared" me. Guess I'll have to have a go at it.

Didn't give the oil filter idea a thought, sounds good.

Throw out bearing is not a press anything. Has a couple of small clips to hold it in place.

Look again.

Don't do that unless you change the mounts. Old mounts sag down to low and the filter hits the steering shaft. I tried to be cheap and not change my "still good' motor mounts while it was out only to have to change them BOTH two months later. The cost or time didn't bother me, it was missing a good drivng day.

Jack - mine is a 1979 California car, perhaps this is why the manual tells me I have to press out. Would be much easier with a couple of clips.

Yes the adapter is the shiny piece and yes i believe you have it upsidedown - mind you you ARE in Australia. The hard line is the oil pressure line that goes from the oil pressure guage through the firewall to the junction that leads to the oil pressure hose that screws into the block. I can't remember if there is a place to screw in the fitting that goes into the block on the other side of the engine saving you have to reroute line around the engine. I put mine in later and then discovered it was supposed to go under the wires and the brake lines and the windshield washer hose - was a pain to fit at that stage.

JP, he doesn't have a hard line. He has a three prong sending unit (CA)....that you can no longer buy....that you have to replace with a single wire sensor from a small block chevy.......that if you bought it from Advance will leak in a few hundred miles.....that they will be mad at you if you change it right in front of the door......because oil leaked out everywhere......which wouldn't have happened IF THEY SOLD DECENT PARTS....

Warren, unscrew the filter nipple out of the adapter and then screw the nipple straight into the block.

IIRC it won't clear if flipped upside down.

JP, did you do direct before or after me?
