TR2/3/3A Before and After on a TR3A starter.

Finally got my starter redone. I bought a Lucas rebuilt starter on eBay. I don't know what kind of starter it was but it wasn't a Lucas. My old 100000 mile starter was however so I took them both to a starter shop that a friend has and had them change the field coils from the rebuilt to the Lucas frame and all of the other rebuilt stuff I put back on. As you can see from the before picture it was fairly groty looking. Lots of dust, rust and dirt. All cleaned up , repainted and ready to be installed once I get the engine off of the engine stand. Yea! I also changed out the pinion gear for the correct one.

That did come out nice!
I had to use that inertia type starter in my TR6 because the pre engaged starter that comes on the 6 had damaged the engine side of the flywheel due to a worn pinion.
The inertia type, like yours, now engagaes the tranny side of the flywheel ring gear.
Saved or delayed a tranny pull.

Looks real good Tink. Where did you get the pinion gear from?? The rebuilder?? Those suckers are getting real scarce. We don't run across them much at work anymore.

Art, got it on ebay some time back. Your right don't see them much anymore. My alternative would be to have the other one turned down like the original, so I was happy to pick that one up.

Nice job. It's great to know that a few locals still survive that don't look at you like you're crazy when you tell them Year - Make - Model.
