Been thinking about remembering Tony

First off let me say that Basil has the votes here - his board, and I both understand that and agree with it. (Including if this post is too soon or out of line).

I've been thinking of an appropriate way to remember Tony, especially since I suspect his answer to this question would be "get out and drive!"

In the early days after his death we talked about financial support for the family etc. etc. It now appears that is not required. Likewise we talked about individual memorials (badges etc). On the basis of all this, I'd like to open some discussion with the following thoughts.

1. That if anyone were to make any kind of charitable response that we do it individually. This would allow for different countries and different passions.

2. That we not worry about badges or stickers or the like. When Jerri is home and thinking about such things, I suspect that there will be autoist hats available again to those who would like them.

3. There's not much Tony liked more than cars and talking about cars as witnessed by his number of posts. Therefore I suggest renaming the Pub the Barnhill Arms.

4. That we either incorporate Tony's name into the Dave Russell award, or rename the award entirely but that we not go for a second award on the boards. One is great, somehow two gets complicated.

Without trying to upset anyone, I would offer my opinion (it is ONLY my opinion)

Anything we do should be done with the full consent of Basil and, primarily, the Barnhill family, particularly Jerri.

Also, the Dave Russell award should remain as it is, (no offense intended JP). To do otherwise, totally negates any respect for a valued member and his forum contributions.

I suggest, a little more time for Jerri to be able to voice her views on this matter.

FWIW, I too second the Dave's stay "Dave's" award. Tony's could simply be who has the most "complete" collection ~AND~ a Corvette.

I think a meet would cover all of the afformentioned points and an award wouldn't be nessisary. To me, I meet would be more fitting, but y'all would know more that I.
 
I really like idea number 3 - and could we also get rid of the pig avatar? Agree the Dave Russell award should remain as is; but let's see what the boss comes up with!

You see the image when you scroll down the Forum List by the Pub. Guess it just never grew on me like the drunken ,Santa Claus hat wearing smilie, offering a toast avatar that was there before piglet.
 
Perhaps a movement to preserve The Autoist website. Either donations to pay for it to stay online, or move it over here. I'd bet there would be a fee for the increased amount of storage.

ISTR in another post, Basil indicated that may be a possibility, depending on Jerri's wishes.

Wonder if there's a plan in place for when Basil moves in with Tony? What's gonna happen to this place?
 
Some good ideas.. I'm sure Basil has something good in the works. Renaming the pub isn't a bad thought. But how about naming it "the Garagemahal Pub" or "The Autoist Pub" or something of that like (Maybe even "Tonys Tavern"). If not, maybe name a new chatroom the Garagemahal to have in there with the Shed.How about when you hit 25,000 posts, you become "Autoist"? Doc gets first honors!
I understand the idea behind renaming the Dave Russell award, But I agree. that should be left alone.
No matter if we renamed nothing at all, Tony will never be forgotten. Nor will Dave.

There are a couple of things in the works. I haven't mentioned this yet, but might as well now. We are working on an idea of having a memorial gathering in Tony's Honor. Will have more to say on this in the coming weeks. Also, I have already been contacted by the family regarding Tony's web site, which coincidentally he was in the process of moving to my server before the accident. I am working with the family on this, but can't say more just now - stay tuned.

Great idea.The Boss has more information than the rest
of us - I trust him to make the right decision.
A lot of this is really up to Jerri,as she is the person
that was closest to Tony.I hope that she choses to do something
to help keep his legacy intact.It is her call.
