"Beauty Rings"

Gentlemen:

Today I returned my trim rings to VB. I asked to look at some others, but they were all the same size.

To reiterate: When I installed these rings they stood off the edge of the wheel by at least 1/2".

Does anyone have any experience with trim rings from Moss or another vendor? I have 13 inch steel wheels which I believe are stock. I love the look of the beauty rings with the hub caps, so that's the route I'd like to take.

Re: "Beauty Rings"

I got some for my B today from a supplier on Ebay.
They seemed too big for the wheels, but since it's a compression fit I pushed hard and they went on.
I don't understand your dilemma, were they too big no matter how hard you tried to get them to fit?

Re: "Beauty Rings"

I took the wheel off the car. I then laid the wheel flat on the floor. I placed the ring over the wheel and pressed into place.

I got the ring in place, but it did not fit snugly against the wheel. It protruded about 1/2 inch all the way around. I then stood on it (I weigh 195 pounds) and then tried hitting it with my rubber mallet. Nothing changed.

I didn't want to damage the ring too much, so I didn't over do the force on the ring. You mentioned a "compression fit." How did you install yours?

Re: "Beauty Rings"

mxp01, what kind of wheels are we talking about here? If they are the original Bugeye wheels, I do not believe that trim rings were ever available for them!

Re: "Beauty Rings"

Mike:

I do believe these are original BE wheels. I described them earlier as being 13 inch, having ZYS stamped in the side, a 4 bolt pattern, openings for the drum brake adjustment (and plug to cover the hole, and a series of round holes around the edge to promote air circulation.

I guess they are stock. VB offers trim rings that fit 1958 - 1970 Sprites. So, I'm trying to figure out if I've got something wrong.

Re: "Beauty Rings"

Ahhh... I put my rings on Rostyle wheels.
I also have a pair on my Midget, again Rostyles.
I just got down by the wheel & pressed them on, I had to push with my knee while pushing with my hands & arms - but I didn't have to jump up & down on them /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Re: "Beauty Rings"

I would check with VB then, as they may be wrong as to the years those rings will fit!! You do have the original BE wheels and as far as I know, trim rings were not fittable!

Re: "Beauty Rings"

According to Mr. T, VB has no one that would know. They only have order takers and no tech folks. Will be intresting to hear what you find.

Re: "Beauty Rings"

I have dealer installed trim rings on my '61 Sprite. I should correct that statement and say I have 3 original trim rings. One was missing when I acquired the car and have not found a matching trim ring. These are fitted to riveted original rims and fit flush with the outer rim at the tire bead. These were available as a dealer installed option.
