So I thought I'd share...

That's my white Boxer Tuppy (short for Tuppence).
She likes to ride, we went on a short drive.
The Doggles help them, keeps stuff outta the eyes.

If you keep posting pictures of the scenery that is a short drive in the Northwest, we'll be over run. Remember always mention the rain if you insist on letting them see what we have mere minutes from our homes.

(still love that bonnet)

Oh the secret is out - soon you'll be flooded by Californians! Oh wait, that already happened about 10 years ago. Sorry about that.

The dirty secret is, that's just outside my front door!!

Hollywood movie scenery has been shot on that same corner, they have even come onto my property to cut limbs off trees and make other "modifications".

You know, I'm a pretty nice guy and if they had only asked first...

Great picture ! never seen Doggles before, perfect! I'm sure you got some smiles when you were out for the ride - Good Stuff !

Yes you do have amazing scenery out that way - but I have never seen so much rain ! I worked at Sea-Tac for about 4 months just over a year ago - heh I was so excited every time the sun would peak out  and I thought Boston was a rainy city up till then

I found the Doggles at Petsmart.
Probably available online somewhere...

We are supposed to get a couple more sunny days this week, maybe I can get my garden ready for winter now that the cars are tended to.

Still fighting my garden right now (stinkbugs). Still getting fall tomatos in and still have younger plants comming up strong. If I can keep the frost off, I should have tomatos comming in till Jan. The wife is a potter and I made some ceramic "topsy turvy" type upsidedown planters as an experiament and they are doing pretty well ( alot better looking that TT too).

I liked the concept but didn't want to hang a bag in my yard. I planted both ends of one. Tobasco peppers up top and cherries out the bottom. Gave it to mom for her b-day and she loves it. I made about 12 total of diffent shapes and colors.

I managed to get a full size Sunmaster tomato plant to grow in a planter the size of a basketball.

Everyone that sees the planters wants one. Who knows....

(I know, I know, shameless plug but I've been working on these for months)

Well I got my garlic in the ground, about 75 - 80 sets of Elephant jumbo garlic. I love the flavor and I've been giving enough away that I am trying to get more planted than normal.
Last year I think I got 48 plants, hope to do better next year.

Ok - so do you have a picture of these planters you're making?

Re: Beautiful Fall day in NW took the dog for a ri

here we go:

Mom's present, Tobasco style peppers on top w/ cherry tomatos on the bottom. I'm not real crazy about the glaze. Looks beeter in good light, it was about to rain.

Cherry tomotos hanging it a tree, just trying them here for a while.

Full size Sunmaster plant in the size of a backet ball "honey pot". I did this as an experimant to see if I could get a big plant in a little pot and still get normal sized fruit. It was a sucess. They are just starting to turn now. Weird shape at bottom opening is a sponge in crooked.

Here's the whole gang so far. Some have been going a while and some were just planted the other day. I ran out of room to hang them so a threw a piece of old chain over some limbs and v'ola, instant hanging garden.

I've got some basil starting in the top of a few, but it's from cuttings and hasn't grown too well. You really can't see the color and textures in these pics (I'm a big texture guy).

The white w/ blue streaks are blue slip squirted over the white body and really looks and feels nice. Good summer color and style w/o too much heat retention. The dark green ones (look hard for them, one is in the tree) do great when it's cold but needs to stay out of direct light I think for summer months.

I like hanging them v.s in ground as soil is rock hard here and I can control the exact amount of water this way and it only takes a few minutes.

I've got some others I'm really like that are going to be bisque fired tonight. One new shape is really cool. I'll try and get a pic before I fire it.

Those are really cool -

Please excuse the neophyte question but... What's the advantage to growing the plant upside down?

I think that answers my question.

I can think of other advantages, like having not much space for gardening and like the artistic aspect of it. Also complete control over your dirt.

Those look great!

Re: Beautiful Fall day in NW took the dog for a ri

1. Space: I don't have to dig up my yard. Can be hung over concrete too and grow stuff where you normally couldn't, like out a second story window. Grow herbs and other stuff like Tobasco peppers up top. Looks REALLY cool.

2. Bugs: believe it or not, I get ALOT less bugs on the hanging plants v.s the ones in the ground just behind these. This encludes flying ones. I thik the plant blowing around shakes them off. I did get two horn worms on them. They're supposed to come out of the ground. I told my old farmer buddy, "lookout they now have helicopters !!!" Didn't have trouble with them like in-ground plants.

3. Water control: I can control the exact amount of water and nutrients they get. I can boost them right at the roots whenever I want. I don't have to worry about overwatering from rain (problem here), or water not getting all the way down to the roots (another problem here). Good drainage and heathy root system.

4. Mobility, I can move them whenever and wherever I please. Need more light, no problem, just pic the spot and go. They are REALLY lighter than you think. Most of the weight is the plant and fruit. I never have to worry about frost. I can start WAAAAY ahead of everyone else now and go alot later into the season. Cold snap headed my way??? No problem. Plants go into the barn or I can just wrap the whole thing, Roots and all.

5. Athsetics: it just looks cool. Anybody can have plants in the ground. It just looks really nice. It a good way to give an unscale propery home grown produce without having to keep up your garden spot to match your house. Grow them on the patio without having to take up space for guests. Folks have plants out there hanging anyway. Might as well be able to eat them. Mine hang along the drive way and people love it when they pull in. I like being different.

6. NO WEEDS: nuff said !!!!!!!

7. No stakes or cages: nuff said pt II, I hate doing that. Just let 'em grow.

8. GROW THEM INDOORS !!!! For all you northern folks I imgaine this would be huge. You can have fresh tomatos when no one else does. Yeah, you'd have to have a greenhouse to do it otherwise, but you can't have oone of those if you live in an apratment. This is the real reason I started this. I want to grow indoors durring winter w/o a green house.

Wait till you see my "Cajun Hanging Garden" I do this comming spring. It'll be really cool and cheap to do. I'm not plant guy, it's more of a therapy for me.
