Warp drive possible

Well, the boffins at NASA were revisiting the Alcubierre drive concept and with at little kneading of the math they've come up with the idea that it just might be feasible to build a warp drive. Initially, although the math didn't break any fundamental laws of physics, it was thought that they would need a chunk of exotic matter roughly the size of Jupiter, now they think they could do it with a chunk only the size of a Morris minor.

I still don't see how one avoids time stopping and mass going to infinity... but then I don't fully understand these worm-holes.

Speaking of this for Star Trek, how did they avoid major time dilation such that they would be completely out-of-synch with the rest of the universe? [don't answer that]

This is old stuff- It's been done before...

..and pronouncing it as "GIG-awats" needs addressing!

We'll have both dark matter and dark energy to play with shortly.

"Please stand by... your shuttle to Yesterwhen will arrive shortly." :smirk:

BAH!! I wuz school'd by PhD's back inna late fiftys to th' early sixties...

From Snell's Law to what was then the infant science of "particle physics" and "cosmology". A ~GIG~ is a measurement of energy.
A ~JIG~ is either an Irish dance or a measurement of an alcoholic beverage. :jester:

 I should have known not to take on the DOC

Yeah Elliot, just repeat after me
"Your the Doc, Doc!"

Forget all this quantum stuff:

Remember "Thug's Law of Opposition" (from Firesign Theater)?

"Firesign Theater" - haven't thought of that in years!

"King Biscuit Flower Hour" as well.
