BE Steering Rack-Leaking 90w

I added about 4oz of 90 W Gear Oil to the steering rack in Bugsy as I discovered the uninstalled rack had leaked a 6-10” oil slick on the garage floor. Oil was added by removing the grease nipple and pumping in Gear Oil from a pump hand oiler until rack was full. I now find that the installed rack is leaking 90 W gear oil at the bottom on the rack where the cover to the pinion gear is. Tightened both bolts but slow leak continues. I know about Corn Head Grease and it’s 0 W lubricating properties.

So before I take Bugsy off of jack stands, got any recommendations for draining remaining oil from rack and repacking with Corn Head Grease. Not sure if there is a gasket at the bottom of the pinion gear and whether this might be another place to try HondaBond FIPG Sealer. TIA for help.

And how much Corn Head Grease to pump w Grease Gun into the rack?

Update

Took rack out, removed pinion gear bottom plate, 2 shims, cleaned off all the junk on the shims, bottom plate, as well as bottom of rack housing and buttoned back up with a very thin film of Hylomar. Reinstalled rack, tightened everything up and added about 2-3 oz of 90w gear oil. Added as much as rack seemed to want and there is lots of fluid in the gaiters on both sides as I worked rack back and forth to distribute gear oil.

installed and replumbed aluminum radiator and that turned into an all afternoon project. At this point all is ready to go all the way back to the heater box and fan which I still need to install. Heater box will get paint tomorrow and front tilt bonnet will be ready for install along with cutting and buffing. Rest of body and doors are already buffed and cut. Fabulous feeling good about progress when I notice rack is still dripping 90W from the bottom of the pinion gear bottom plate. It seems even faster than before. CRAP

i’m Not about to pull radiator out again. Thinking let it and keep an eye on the leak and after a few weeks pump Cornhead Grease into the rack? Need some more ideas gents. Trying to keep project moving so I can start driving Bugsy. Suggestions please!!!

Guys to the top looking for help as rack is still leaking, see above.

Jim, you are overthinking it. Pump some cornhead grease into when it stops leaking. I honestly do not know how much. If you give it a few pumps when you lube everything else it will be fine. I have a cheap grease gun that I keep the cornhead grease in so that I do not have to change back and forth.

Trevor that is pretty much the plan. Hope you are coping with cold weather and snow today. Happy to report to my friends up North, Apollo Beach is checking in with sunny and 81 this afternoon. Fall is finally here in FL and Bugsy is almost put back together after painting.
