BE Sprite vs. Porsche

I ran across this video by accident but watch to see a BE chase down not one but 2 911's. More info on htis Sprite and what's under the bonnet would be interesting to learn. Rules say no passing in the corners. The BE just eats them up in the corners.

Man, never heard a Bugeye sound like that. Drove well also.

BEs have always been sudden death to others in the corners. Was always willing to take on all comers around the block with a stop watch. hehe

Slide to about 1:30 on ~this video~ and watch me pass a Porsche 911 just after he has caught me on the back straight. I have a basically stock 1275 engine.

Obviously, he can outrun me in the straights, but it's satisfying to catch some of these faster cars in the turns.

I think it was because he was not much of a driver and you are smooth as silk. LOL

Any guesses on his engine. It was a bear.

The orange Porsche had (I think) a 3.0 liter.

Vintage racing is all just good fun; no points or trophies so you don't really "win" anyway.
My favourite races are with other Sprites driven by guys like me. Like playing chess with your twin brother.

What kind of camera rig do you use? Your videos are fun to watch and I'd like to make some of my own.

Glad you like the videos.

It's a ~Flip Camera~ . About $80.
I think the company is no longer making them but you can still buy them through Amazon. There are other similar cameras from other companies.

The blue bugeye in the original video mentioned above is my friend Terry Davis's car, it has a 1380 A series and is a well set up car. I believe he races with the Rock Mountain Vintage Racing group. I have seen fast bugeyes and box sprites literally blow off 6 cylinder Porsches, early vettes, Mustangs, etc. They are very very capable race cars, expecially on the shorter, tighter tracks (which Hastings in the video is).

Thanks for the update.

Is 1380 the displacement and is that the trick 1275 with staggered pistons and such.

Oh man, now if I could just get the wife to go on a world cruse or such.

That sounds so good.

Jack, it's only money and you can't take it with you. If you want it bad enough you'll figure out a way. Tempus Fugit!
