BE Mechanical Fuel Pump Installation

Had my engine out over the winter to do the clutch and have gotten it all back in and ready to go.

However, I cannot get the fuel pump to move gas to the carbs.

Its a 948 with the original Mechanical Fuel Pump.

When I remove the pipe into the pump and suck on it, i can pull fuel from the tank.

When I have the in & out pipes off and operate the primer, I can hear the diaphragm operating.

But when I hook the inlet pipe to the pump, I cannot get it to pump fuel either manually or by turning the engine over with the starter. I've tried it with the outlet pipe on and off.

I seem to remember that there was a "trick" or a caution to make sure you put the pump in correctly so it rode on the lobe correctly, but I cannot find that reference anymore and cannot figure out what's wrong.

Any ideas or pointers?

This weekend, I'll be removing the carbs so its easier to fiddle with the pump, but would love some ideas as to what might be wrong.

PS - Did not make Carlisle. Very disappointed. Just too much going on this spring that kept me from getting the engine back in. Can't wait to see the pics. Guess I'll shoot for the 55th. (!@#$, my son will be driving by then)
