BE fuel pump

Well I tried crank my car up for the first time in exactly one year today. Note the car ran perfectly when I took the engine out at the onset of resto. Well tried turning the car over and immediatley smelt gasoline. Looked at the carbs no sign of leaking, then the fuel pump and I found gas leaking from all around the domed upper housing. I did not take the pump apart at any point all I did was lightly clean it off with steel wool. It appears that the gasket under the dome would be bad. Has anyone had much experience with servicing these pumps? The rebuild kits seem ridiculously expensive from moss an VB.

Watch ebay. I've bought two rebuild kits in the last few months each at very reasonable cost. I haven't rebuilt either pump yet. If you are in a real bind pm me and we'll work out something.

Good news. I just purchased a working ac sphinx pump on ebay for a great price. The seeler said it had no leaks and came out of a running car which had been converted to electrical fuel pump. Even if it comes in poor condition it was worth it at that price.

I love my electric fuel pump.

Converted the old manual pump hole to a big breather.
