BE Exhaust manifold surgery....

Jack: So, your original suggestion of just removing a few nuts wasn't quite accurate. Is there a reason you want to make it easier than you know it is for those of us who are trying to learn?

dave in st. louis

It is that easy.

1. Remove the five nuts that hold the manifolds to the head.

2. Remove the fuel line to the front carb if necessary.

3. Remove air filters if necessary.

4. Pull the carbs and all linkage etc etc toward the front drivers side wheel and secure it with a tie of some sort.

5. Remove the fastner from the exhaust manifold to the exhaust pipe.

6. Remove the exhaust manifold.

Note: number 2 and 3 may or may not be necessary.

Should take 20 min out and 30 min in.

I had no notion of your mechanical experience so I did not provide a detailed check list. Oh yea 7/16 and 1/2 inch open end wrenchs should do it.

And to add to Jack's list of things to do, is buy a shop manual. Not trying to sound mean, it's just step 1 in the procedure of working on your car, if you skip step 1, how do you expect to get to step 2.

I deal with this kind of thing quite often with members in my car club, the other night in a discussion with a club member who wanted to rebuild his own engine, when I had to explain to him what a bearing and oil pan was, I had to stop him right there and suggest he seek professional help with his engine. Not to seem harsh but think of a forum and it's members as way to get you up and running, not teach you how to tie your shoes.

Lol. At least one shop manual. As you go down the road you will find several are helpful.

Also an orginal one that the factory mechs used. Try Ebay.

Well, I can still untie my shoes and I have (3) shop manuals including the original from '61. If you check it, the narrative nor the photo is there to describe what some forum members have.

I'll try not to trip over my shoestrings again so I don't offend.

Ha, you can not offend by asking questions or more info when you do not get enough of an answer here.

We are just a bunch of friends loveing out little cars and trying to help and have fun doing so.

Draw us up short Dave, when we need it.

Jack:

Want to thank you for saying it's alright to ask questions...Because of that, I'll continue to use the Forum as a resource.

appreciate it,
