Has anyone (other than Trevor /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif ) found a good substitute for the bugeye door material? I had planned to use some ribbed material from my local ACE hardware store but they no longer carry it. Since on the hunt I thought I'd seeif anyone else had a better idea.

I think I might order a sample of the 1/8" corrugated from restoration specialties and see what it looks like.
 
I've never had the material and always wanted some. It has been an unasked question that needs an answer.
 
Not knowing the specifics of a BE door, what are you guys asking about? Is this card stock that gets covered with vinyl or something? You used the term corrugated (like cardboard). Sign companies have corrugated plastic sheets. I believe the standard thicknesses are 4mm and 6mm. The only problem is they are polyethylene which would make it hard for anything to stick/glue to them.

Nope, we are asking about a sheet rubber product that was glued to the inside of the doors.

Sounds like it was used as a sound absorbing material. If so check out Dyna Mat and others on the net I think it will serve your purpose.--Fwiw--Keoke
 
But it is clearly visible and needs to have a certain pattern/color.
 
I guess it is technically called a door pocket liner.
 
Its more than just the sound deadening. This rubber mat has a certain look to it and that's what we're trying to locate.

This is similar to what the BE had originally but it was in various colors to match the interior. Or course black is fine for me /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif
 
Yes, it was 3/16th grooved rubber, colored to match the interior.

After you find that let me know and then we can start huntin the floor coverings /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/banana.gif

That was nasty stuff, we all took it out and put carpet in there back in the day.
 
So what does Mrs. A have, Jack? I just cant put vinyl in mine after all of the work I've done to this point. I'm going to find something close and use it. After all, BE's didn't have carpet at all originally. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif
 
Ben, on that link you posted I would say the Fine Rib Corrugated looks right, but I agree with Jack! I have used a light-weight indoor/outdoor carpet (mine is gray) that also has that corrugated/ribbed look, but in carpet! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif
PS: I think it does a better job of sound-deadening too!

Miss Agatha has vinyl just like the rest of the kick panels.

That's what came in the kit, looks fine and I can change it out later if I wish easly enough.
 
A very suitable replacement for the ribbed rubber dooe liners is stair runner. I found a roll at an old corner hardware store in NY a couple years ago. Carpet stores have something close but it's clear vinyl which can be painted with Krylon Fusion or other vinyl paint.
If you have an old carpet store around, ask about the black ribbed stair runner. Buy alot, it's hard to find these days.

With the link provided above, could you not contact the owners of the web site and see if they have the material in a color suitable for your car and/or if they sell through distributors?

On the other hand, Spritenut's suggestion of the stair runner vinyl sounds good. However, instead of Krylon Fusion, I'd look for a suitable color of SEM's vinyl spray colorant that's used to re-color car interior panels. You stand a better chance of having the "paint" stick to the vinyl and you'll have a wide assortment of colors that will be close to the interior color you're trying to match.

I don't know if this link will work. If not, go to the route address of the link and browse to find the Color Coat aerosols for vinyl. Eastwood used to sell these and may still.
