Be careful out there

Hmm... I grew up in a family where Scrabble was blood-sport. And crossword puzzles were timed. o_O
Oh my... my parents have a wine stained scrabble set which was the result of the "fight" which started after my father put "syzygy" on a triple word score. As I recall one of the S's was added onto a different word. Blood sport indeed.

Here too, a bit of a moratorium going on just now.

OTOH we have friends who keep a 'good stuff' jar where they write down and deposit all the good stuff that happens over the course of a year. Serious and not so serious. They then open and review on New Year's Eve. This was one thing posted from this year's review:

Quahog on a triple letter score... A dear friend from days gone by was a "competitor" in many of our family Scrabble tournaments in our late teen years. The scores were astronomical between he, my mum and her sister. We'd lost track of one another for thirty-some years, only reconnected on the 'net a couple years before his death, in '17. Hope the three of them are now vying for top score once again. :angel3:

I grew up in a house that played chess and backgammon, I played chess with my dad and backgammon with my mom. I don't think they ever played a game with each other. 🤣

Oh, I bet they did - just not the kind you'd have recognized at the time... ;)

Not much of a gamer. Back in college there was a Star Trek game running on a PDP that you could play on a Western Union teletype machine. With a paper tape attachment. Put the little dots in a paper cup with a fire cracker, seal it, light it and throw it into a dorm room. Takes a while to get the carpet clean. Went off on a tangent there.

Wrote my first program on a PDP / teletype setup. Something like hello world. I think there was a text based adventure game on the system.

My first computer game was some sort of shoot-the-space-aliens game on a mainframe green & black terminal at college. Was in about 1966. I recall if one pressed the left and right arrow at the same time, your player would disappear (and not get shot by the aliens) and would reappear at some random location.

SOUNDING on a triple word score - triple word and all the tiles - my best game ever!

Isn't Quahog a proper noun and illegal in the game?

Not the way those folks played it. Another one I recall was 'oxpecker.'

Did not know there were different rules than what was inside the box top.
I suppose that the pros play with strict time limits, etc.
