I first learned of it when everyone else did, I PM'd Curt but it was a day or two before he was able to reply. I appreciate Curt coming on here and clearing things up.

PS: Curt on behalf of us all, apologies for jumping to conclusions.
 
I'm afraid I also jumped to the wrong conclusion. My apologies. I think the BBS was the trigger though. BTW, I just tried britishcarforum.net and it directed me back here. So that seems to work. Anyone for whom it does not, it may be either your browser or even your ISP caching web pages.
 
Tony, I meant it seemed strange that Basil didn't know of Curt's intentions. I would have assumed Basil would be the first to be notified on what Curt was doing. That he wasn't notified is what started this whole thing. The conclusion jumped to was by far the most logical!

Apologies but not too quick to say what we said based on the information we had.

One of the weaknesses of internet interactions with other people is the faceless connections that can easily be misconstrued - even emoticons don't really express a person's inner thoughts....& if a person doesn't stay in tune with what's going on, the delay causes even more concern.

Plus, I think that's the nature of us down here in the US.....we have our loyalties and get upset when someone tries to undermine them - or the appearance is there that someone is trying to take advantage of another person.
 
If there was a reasonable amount of doubt about what was going on, then the conclusions would have been different. Based on the visible information, which was all fact, it was 90% likely to be what everyone suspected. That's why everyone assumed the same thing. I don't see it as jumping to an unfair conclusion.

There are times when a conclusion should not be drawn and there are times when it should. This was one of the latter in my opinion. What Curt eventually posted was very far from the most likely scenario, so fortunately the conclusion was wrong and we're all glad it wasn't what it appeared to be.
 
wow, i just read this thread with my mouth agape.

A group of people assuming the same thing , does NOT make it the truth.

there are some folks here very quick to jump to conclusions.

Absolutely correct, but you have to admit that looking at the situation, there was very little doubt what was going on. It's a very, very common thing in the world of domain names.

Our entire legal system is based upon looking at the facts and drawing the most likely conclusion. Sometimes there is a lot of doubt in which case you should err on the side of caution. In other cases (such as this one) the evidence to the contrary is overwhelming, especially when there is so much precedence.

It's easy to judge in hindsight and say people acted wrongly. In this case I don't believe anyone was wrong. They were showing reasonable logic and a protective nature for Basil and this forum.
 
How many of you went and read Curt's past comments before jumping to conclusions? I was thinking like all of you, but before I posted I went and read many of the discussions in which he participated. From reading those I could not believe that he had intended to do any wrong to the forum. His nature and tone did not conjure images a selfish person.

No real harm done, but we could all take a little more time to reflect and investigate before going public with such allegations.
 
Maybe we should all just let it go. Curt could have made an announcement prior to his actions, we all could have been a little slower on the draw, the end result is the confusion seems to be over. I admit that I was pretty upset about the whole thing (or my perception of it and the underlying motivation). Maybe we all just chalk it up the the stress of the last week or so associated with the potential loss of the Forum.

I didn't, because I had no idea who he was, or if he was a member here. I don't own a Triumph and therefor have never been to the Triumph forum.

Hindsight is 20/20.
 
Moveing on but this thread just goes to show how near and dear this forum is to so many of us. Thanks Basil.
 
Basil,

I am a newbie here but a huge fan. I have gotten acquainted with several great people here. It is a learning process with my TR3 but am loving the ride.
