I had the pleasure of spending a couple of yrs in the Army; "Right"!! (Jan. 66 - Jan. 68): "Hue, Vietnam" tet offensive survivor; (Jan. `67 - Jan. `68)!

How I made it?? To this day I count my blessings!!

Depends on your perspective. We had some flurries, and I needed to scrape my windows yesterday morning, but here in the Springs it's still "forget your jacket at work" weather. This weekend is supposed to be goregeus and some of my bikers buddies are going on a ride.

I don't think its that cold, but I did live in Nebraska for 6 years. Actually I missed the last 4 wineters living in Oklahoma and lived in Florida before that, so I am really enjoying the fall. Espcially here, its beautiful.

It would be funny if I know you. Do you ever do any work out at Schriever?
 
As I type this I am sitting in my office at the JNIC on Schriever. The training is handled by a Detachment of the training squadron at V-Burg.

An aside: a fella I was pals with in Asia went "home" to the Springs, got a job with KRDO. We were 601st Photo HQ weenies (read: enlisted scum /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif ) back then.
 
USAF for 20 years, 10 months, 8 days (but who's counting! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Served 16 years 93 days at McConnell AFB, Wichita, KS as a BMAT (Ballistic Missile Analyst Technician - also known as Brooms, Mops And Trash). Job was to hot wire the launch system to launch the missile if it didn't go.

Sat under the ground for ~ 24 hours wondering if we were going to kill millions of people that shift.

Did 784 alerts for the Titan II weapon system.

Retired in 1990 after 4 years as a Computer Programmer.

Uh, Boss, Homestead is in Florida. Mountain Home is in Idaho.
I think my brother did about the same amount of time at Travis. At one time, his boss had been there for over 22 years!
In fighters, we were lucky to stay in one spot for 18 months!!

Oh yea, lol, that's right! Had a senior moment.
 
I joined the RAN, [Oz navy], in 58, on, would you believe, april fools day.

After a 4 month mid shipman course, which was supposed to make us "gentlemen", did my flying training with the RAAF, [OZ airforce], then my carrier flying training with the RN, [UK navy].

After 21/2 years of training somewhere else, most of us always felt a bit out of place, back in the navy.

Spent some years, flying round & round in square circles, at sea, pretending to look for things we knew weren't there. Should have been boring, but was abso-bl##dy-lutely fantastic.

I spent a week in the RV park at Mountain Home in 2004! Is that like a Holiday Inn Express?
 
This last Monday a real American hero died and I lost a good friend. Chester "Baldy" Rapa first served in World War II in the Pacific. Among other things while on a ship sent out to draw fire he was wounded while moving two wounded shipmates to safety. He also served in Vietnam as a member of the USAR. He earned many decorations for his service.
He was a man that did the little things that made him a person loved by all that knew him.
Baldy was 20 years my senior and a man I respected and learned from. Most of all he was a friend.

Thanks guys. There were three of them and Baldy was the last to go. These guys took me under their wing and included me in the group. Made a huge difference in my life. We had a lot of great times over the years and I have all the memories.
