BCF Military Service Poll?

I think we may all have. That Wall has more'n one of mine on it.

I think I mentioned this in another thread, but I'll add it to this one also. I served on one of these Navy "K" Bags out of Lakehurst, NJ in 1956. They were used for sub patrol along the coast. We would drop a fish, (sonar) in the water on a half mile long cable. It worked very well and you can see a sub deep in the water, but as subs got more modern, their speed increased to a point where they could outrun a blimp. At that time blimps became obsolete for sub patrol. They are the only thing I know of that you can get sea sick on besides one of those large hunks of floating iron. Even so, it was great duty! Hmmm, I'm telling my age now.

Air Force - 25 years. 10 spent as enlisted man, 15 as Officer. Dad was Combat Medic in WWII and did two tours in VN. Oldest son is currently Aircraft Commander on the KC-135R

stevel, the destroyer my dad served on was hit by an American aircraft carrier then sold to Iran for scrap metal, you dont even want to be in the same room when he tells that story, talk about being p.o.ed. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/savewave.gif

Yep, felt the same way when the Bainbridge was re-cycled and the Decatur used for target practice and sunk...

I have to remind myself it was not the ship, but her crew who brought them honor.

Thanks for that Bill!! That should be required viewing for everyone who sports an "I support our troops" bumpersticker!!!....the PROUD parent of a US Marine and a US Airman!!

Seen it before and I think it's great. Made by a young teenager, if what I've read about it is true. Stirs the spirit.

I sent it to a few aquaintances, who all emailed back saying it is no longer available!!

I just hit it. Seems fine now.

followed in my old man's footsteps and joined the merchant navy 1965-71. My pop was in from 1925-69. Was the first ship into Algiers after N Africa capitulated, was at Dunkirk taking troops off and also the N Atlantic convoys. The minefields were something else. I still have all his medals and bars.

I have to admit, I'm not an American, but I served in Her Navy,
Not because I had to, but because I wanted to. How many 19 YOs
have you met that wanted that? I'm a Kiwi, I'll always be a
Kiwi, but the US is my home, and I feel that I owe Her something...

My life, my liberty, my happiness, and my wife...

Speaking of Air Force, my oldest son just returned home (Grand Forks. ND) after "dragging" our local New Mexico Guard (F-16s) across the big pond. Shaun is a KC-135 AC.
