BCF Military Service Poll?

The reason I asked was because those were all places those aircraft were used. I fixed sensors on them. My AIT was at Huachuca for over 12 months. It was weird because we were electronics repair and everybody else was spooks of some sort or other. The cadre didn't like us because we were there long enough for basic to wear off and learn what the Army was really like. Most people there for AIT were there for 8 to 16 weeks. I loved the desert. I went cave exploring, found old mines, horseback riding, saw Tombstone, Tuscon, Mt.Lemmon. It sure did get hot though.

Thank you all who served. I never did, but Dad was Master Sargent in the Air Corps in WWII, and my son is currently a 2nd Lt. in the USAF at Randolph AFB training to be a navigator. Having attended one of my Dad's reunions, I got a slight understanding of what they went through, and I appreciate every hour you each contributed to our safety.

Hey eejay,...You're right about "spooks"... had a Top Secret Clearance, and there were STILL a lot of locked doors and "lurking" about. My office was a bank vault that 3 outer office doors each with a combination (No "swipe" cards in those days)! But, I'm not paranoid...you don't think the FBI is reading the British Car Forum, do you?
More car related, drove a Mk3 Spitfire while there...Yellow with a black stripe.
Take care Bob

No category for "spooks"?
Nothing against the boys who hide in the shadows but unless you where “Military” Intel or where in the Military before becoming a spook – then I’d have to guess it wouldn’t apply here. Bout the only acceptations would be those who served with Military units in combat areas where they where fighting & dieing along side our other troops.

In the last case (assuming no prior service) pick the one that applies. I mean if someone’s a field spook – who’s going to argue with ya? Certainly not me. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

I spent 5 years in the Navy and maybe I'm a little dense, but what in the world is a spook, as identified with the service? I never heard that one before.

OK,...I'm a little slow, ...If anyone was offended by the term, I sincerly apoligise! Fort Huachucha Arizona is located in the southern part of Arizona, in the Sierra Mountains. A very desolate area. In the late 60's it was home to Strategic Communications Command. Lots of Secret and Super Secret communications devices were developed and tested here, so eejay and I were indeed referring to spy's and secret listening devices.
Again,...SORRY for any misunderstanding!
Take care Bob

No need for apologies.

I'm very familiar with Fort Huachuca and the surrounding area been there many times in fact. But besides its significance to the Intel community they’ve got an area down there where they do Bata testing of different high tech systems.

There are many MANY connotations to the word “Spook”.

But while it is mostly used to describe those in the intelligence community (CIA, MI6 etc.), it’s also been used to describe those in Military intel groups as well.

Fort Huachuca is also an Intel training center which is why I was there. We were camera/radar fixers and the other people going to school there were learning to be things like intel analysts, image interpreters, and counter espionage guys.

Ok this has nothing to do with politics. I'm trying this in another forum too and just wanted to simply a poll of those BCF'ers who ever served in the military.

That includes draftees, volunteered and even all you officer types too (;)). Heck I don’t give a rat’s A.. err. Behind - if you served in peace time or in time of war. I just want to break it down to get a head count for each branch of the military represented here in the BCF.

Likewise I’d like to open this up to all of my fellow British Car fans here who’ve ever served in foreign militaries too. Heck I don’t even care if you where even an enemy combatant of the USA's at one time – you’re still welcome to vote. Now I realize that not ever nation has an Army, Navy, Airforce or Marine Corps like the US does, so just go ahead & pick the one that applies best.

As for those who saw service in mutable branches of the military (two or more) I would like you not to be offended & just pick the one that best fits. Of course if you feel like it - go ahead & post what other branches of the military you served in too. Suggestion is to go ahead & pick either the first branch or the one you served the longest in. I know one guy who served in the Army for 15 years yet still calls himself a Marine because he joined that branch first. But again its your choice.

Oh & just so nobody feels left out - I’ll include one for Merchant Marines in the poll too.

Let the inter-service rivalry begin! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/whistle.gif

So whats the deal - did folks stop voting or what?

I'm having a hard time with the idea that there are only two jarheads here. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

I'm a little slow on the boards lately... busy with personal stuff and work ...

The Jarhead count is now up to 3 LeatherNecks /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Israeli Army (Civilian) Rescue we have authority over everything from civilian disasters (large scale) such as collapse of a large building, earthquakes, to rescuing civilians in the case of war conventional and non-conventional. If the army needs me, someone has had a real bad day. My unit has visited Turkey twice Armenia, Greece (earthquakes), Kenya (massive terrorist bombing which leveled several building)and a few others. I haven't been invited yet, and I am not really disappointed.
