BCF Challenge: Find Me A Car

I'm open to whatever suggestions you may have. Extra bonus points for something classy I can drive to upscale functions.

I've been thinking about this part of the request. In southern Mississippi, does classy mean with or without the manure spreader??.....:highly_amused:

He's referring to an Isetta. The reason they all had soft tops was to allow you to get out in the event of a front end collision. The front was the only door, and the side slider windows were too small to climb through.

If you mean the manifold, it does look a bit like a squid or something but it's a very efficient design. There's actually very little to be gained all the way up to ~250whp with regard to port/polish. Reminds me of this:

Both of my grandsons worked for a BMW dealer in Tulsa and they said a BMW is the last car on earth they'd ever own! Said their constantly having issues with them and it takes a lot of money to keep them up. Once the warranty is up and not being a car for the back yard mechanic, it's back to the dealer for repairs, at 85 to 100 bucks an hour! + parts! PJ

To be fair, I have a feeling he's talking about the newer ones. The E30 is an extremely reliable platform; heck, almost all of them are above 200kmi by this point and can double that with regular maintenance (timing belt, water pump, oil, etc.). Mine hasn't let me down once, and I've never encountered a car that was so thoughtfully put together.
 
I've had my E30 for 9 years. It's let me down at least once. The fuel pump quit. It took me a week to get the right one because mine is the '91 318is a one year only transition car. I got it with 180K on the clock, and now it's at 214. In the time I've owned it I've replaced the fuel pump, the radiator, the steering rack, the front struts, the alternator and belts, The A/c compressor bearing and the clutch. I always wind up buying parts online because no one local has them, and to order them through the local parts stores is expensive.
All that said, it's a very well built little car. For having 200K+ miles it doesn't rattle or clunk, and that little 4-banger goes like stink! I'll miss it, but I think it's time for it to go.
