Battery time

This 20F degree morning my battery wasn't a happy camper.
It was in the car when I bought it (3 years ago) so it could be very old, I know it's time to replace it.

Does Costco carry the right battery for a Midget?

Any other place come to mind? I usually buy my batteries from Costco.

I realized I should specify that this is for my '78 Midget.
The batteries are different from early cars to later cars.

I'll just go over to Costco after work and see if they have one that fits.

Group 51-R batteries fit fine in a 1500. Seems to me some late model Hondas use the same size, so you should have no trouble. When I had to replace mine some shops were calling out group 24, which was huge. Now I just know to ask for a 51-R.

Rick-
Maybe battery.......maybe naught.
We were 29 at 0900, and the single-weight oils do NOT like to turn over.

I took the Jag to St. Arbux as it was in the heated (somewhat) gee-rahge.

Flatheads (30wtHD) crank, but, boy are they slow.......

Thanks guys.

It turned right over when connected to the jumper cables (to our van).
Nope, battery old need new one!

The battery in mine weighs 48lbs. When it dies I'm going for a small light AGM or whatever they call 'em.

Costco had one that fit, a group 51 with 500 cca.

It fit and works and what more can I ask.

Oh yeah, no questions asked return for 36 months and prorated after that out to 100 months.

Kinda hard to beat that with a stick.

Think about a marine battery box. I used one under Bugsy's battery. Doesn't look out of place and the rust prone area under the battery is protected. And if you've got holes under the battery the plastic battery box spreads the load.

I'm pretty happy with the Westco AGM battery in my BGT. However, it is so small that one would look a bit out of place in the sprite. On the other hand, it is very lightweight...perhaps I could build a box that looked like an OE battery but contained a Westco battery and a lot of air.

That would have worked for me too - except Costco was less than a mile from me and Walmart was 18 miles away.

Already had a liner in there.

you'd be amazed what a riding mower battery will crank !!!

I used one for a "jump box" for a while and I started my '81 J10 pickup w/ a 360 in it and it had no battery at all !!!!

I have a Optima 24 in mine, which worked fine until a second ago when I got up to start it.

Had to jump it off. First time ever. Not that cold here. It's been a few days since I started it and it always seems to spin slow when cold. Timing at 12 BTDC. 24 is too big as I had to take the heater out.

What year car do you have?
It was around '74 or so (when they changed the heater) that the battery changed from a size 24 (or 24F) to a 51.

+1 on the Westco. I have one in my B and the Spit gets one for Christmas.
