Battery Tie Down

I got the battery tie down kit (metal angle piece painted black, 2 j hooks) ready to fit on my car. I'm a bit concerned about fitting it. It looks like it would be really close to my battery posts. Is there something else that I'm missing to keep it away from those posts?

Yes a peice of rubber to put between the angle peice and the battery and posts.

Cut one from something, like an old intertube or such make it wide enough to stick up a bit on the rear to protect the angle peice from the posts.

I put the "angle piece" inside a used bicycle tube before bolting it down...

My PO had a piece of wood as the cross piece. I never put it back on, where's the battery gunna go anyway? (I know, I probably should have something on there)

Thanks for the ideas. I thought the same thing about where's the battery going to go, but one day last week I came over a hump in the road, that made me think about it. Looks like another trip to the bicycle store to see if they have any used tubes.

I had a battery arc itself to death and weld the metal hold down.
I only use wood these past 30 years and never had that problem.
They do make them out of plastic today too but a slat of 2" wide wood will never melt or short out a battery.
