I'm ready to buy a battery for my TR3A restoration project. I've looked at the "Lucas" branded clones at Moss, VBM, RF, etc. but don't like the prices. I found a place on-line in Ohio (I think) that manufactures "classic" batteries, but didn't like their price either, although they were very pleasant to talk to. I hate to go Wal-Mart and stick one of their's in my beautiful engine bay, so what have others of you done for a battery?
 
I couldn't afford those either, so here's what I came up with, using a Sears (I think) battery.

I took an 8x10 piece of cardboard, painted it black, added my own home-made Lucas label, then laminated it. Slid it under the hold-down bracket. Now I have a removable (and re-usable) Lucas "front".

That's a neat idea! It's so simple, it's brilliant!
 
I also start with a WalMart battery and tart it up:

Those are homemade labels that are printed on photo paper by Walgreens (or whomever). 2 for 19 cents.

One set of battery caps were found at a local battery recycler (free) the other sourced off of eBay. Both were repainted to fit the Lucas scheme.

If you get generic caps (i.e. not Mopar or Delco for example) they can be reasonable.

Pmail me if you want the data set to send to Walgreens to print the labels. Use 2-sided tape to affix.

Also looks great. I have some Lucas labels that I acquired somewhere. I'll work with them and some paint........
