Battery question from a newbie

I've decided that I want to convert my 66 MGB to a single 12-volt instead of having the two 6-volt batteries mainly because it will be easier to get them now (no one local has the 6-volt, but they were not short on laughter when asked). Is there anything more particular to look for in the single 12-volt battery besides a Group 26 battery? If you have any particular brands that seem to work better than others, I'd appreciate that, too. Thanks!

If you get one with ears, they can be very very carefully trimmed off. Just don't cut into the body of the battery and cause an acid leak. I have done this on a couple of batteries when they didn't have anything else.
