T-Series Battery for TD

I am considering buying a battery for my TD from a company called Antique Auto Battery - they advertise in Hemmings. They say their battery looks just like the original tar top Lucas, however it is a modern sealed battery. Anyone out there have any experience with these guys?

Welcome to the BCF and it's nice to see another TD owner in the group. I do not have the answer but someone here might. Not as many TD owners here as there are on the BBS. I'd like to know the answer myself.

I'm a fan of Optima batteries. You can get covers for them such as Tar Tops to make them look more period. I buy my Optima batteries from C&S Classic Battery.

Welcome to another TD owner...I'm in the process of putting mine back togwther & will be looking for a battery soon...I also want the appearance of the old original one but without any decals so I can put the LUCAS decal on it...keep us informed of your decision (Optima is also one of my thoughts)

tony...think you're on the right track..I've heard nothing but good things re: the Optima...you can make them look close to original with paint/covers, stickers..but with the draw these old collectors usually have on a battery and the idle time in garages my opionion is go modern...pay the bucks and count on your juice being there...I'm sick of replacing batteries year-to-year.

Think so...I can get the LUCAS decal...when I'm ready, I'll head to our local Optima dealer.

Thank you for all the replies guys. I think I will try these people. Four year warranty and money back if I don't like the appearance. They guarantee it to be a clone of the original except with poly top not tar and sealed. $250 + shipping.

Will let everyone know how it turns out.

/bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/iagree.gif No kidding!!

Nothing is too good for Tonys TD. Well, we'll see. Can't wait.

Yea, I agree, it is a little pricey. Problem is it's chump change compared to the total I have in this thing. Oh by the way I still have to buy the original top hat cables also. Nobody gives those things away either.

I've been told by my TD buddies to just use a regular battery but it's just a detail that I would like to have.

Most of the chrome is still in good shape on my car so I have avoided some of that expense.

HEY!! I'm not paying $250 for a battery! No way! I'm gonna investigate having Optima do one for me like Steve & Bibber suggested.

There is certainly nothing wrong with paying a lot of money for a quality part, as long as you know the other options. I for one would love a battery that looked authentic to the period of whatever car I'm putting it into and would pay something extra to get it. But I don't have any cars where you can see the battery without taking off a cover plate, so the added expense isn't worth it, especially if the Optima is better.

Please post photos and a review of the battery once you get it installed and use it for a while!

Hi All, that battery from Antique Auto is an AGM unit such as the optima or the Odessey in diquse. It is a bit pricey though,--Fwiw--Keoke
