Battery Cover

I'm looking for a plastic battery cover to fit over the vented caps on my Lucas battery. Anyone know where I can get one. I saw one about 8 years ago on a TR3A and the owner told me that he bought his from a Jaguar parts supplier.

Doesn't Kodanja have something like that on his TR6 Lucas battery? I think that he got his stateside.

The battery cover I saw about 8 years ago was just like the top cover you might see for storing a barrty used in your power boat to start the engine - only it was just the top. It covered the whole battery.

Speaking of battery covers, has anyone bought or have seen the battery cover that Moss sells to cover an Optima? The ad says that it turns an Optima battery to a six cell tar top look alike. Kind of pricey and Don would probably dock me points for it!

Lou - I need the full battery cover to keep the acid from spitting upwards through the vent holes in the caps - onto the paintwork on the inside of the hood just above the battery. I had quite a bit of spitting damage the paint, but I recently had the whole car re-sprayed including everything in the engine compartment - so I want to prevent the spitting again. Ther valve cover also got some of the spits and this stained the chrome.

When I put my new Optima battery in next spring, this bad boy may be dressing it up. Now that's pimpin a ride!

That is, I can figure out how not to short circuit everything from the metal to metal contact if you aren't careful with the cables.

Maybe a bad idea after all!

Paul- Now that would look good on the 8's trunk battery.

My lame low-tech contribution ...

Why not just lay a rectangle of (green?) felt over the battery, held down by the battery bracket?

Easily removable, absorbs and prevents spatter to the bonnet.

Don,

My TR3 battery box is actually from my old boat. Never used the top and I actually found it's dusty new self in the rafters of the shed. It's 11 1/2 inches length but will accommodate a side cable hook up to 13 inches, 8 1/4 inches wide but will accommodate a front cable hook up to 9 inches, 3 1/2 inches deep. If you want just give me a PM with ship to details.

Tom - After about a week, the cloth (say it's green) will have turned into green powder in places and you will find it stuck all over the top and sides of the battery. If you prefer red, then a piece of red fabric will do that for you.

Harry - Today I bought a stiff plastic tray in a kitchen-wares store. One that is used to keep the knives separate from the spoons, forks, etc. I'm going to drill two holes in the bottom, turn it upside down, and hold it down in place over all the battery caps using threaded rods that are the same (but maybe longer as the usual ones that are used for securing the battery solidly in the battery box. I plan to hook the bottom ends the same way as for the battery bar rods. The venting from the cells will escape from either end of this design where the extensions beyond the ends of the battery turn down again.

I'll let you know how it works out.

And I'll be able to remove it in seconds before the TRA or VTR judges come around.
