Very nice Elan on this days e mail.
Those things are pricey. Wish I would have bought one years ago

I've been watching them for a few years now, very attractive car with good mechanicals if you get a nicely sorted one.

The graph curve on pricing looks like a hill climb. Steady increase, and I wouldn't expect it to stop anytime soon.

Seems like $20K is the starting point for a nice example.

Ugh. :cryin:

Yikes! I think I know that car.

They do seem to be bringing some money all of a sudden. Egan's went for $38,200 and the white one on eBay sold outside of eBay, and he had a reserve in the mid $30k's. Apparently that one sold for a whole lot more than the reserve price. I feel good about buying mine when I did, especially knowing it's in great mechanical condition.

Mine is not in great condition, needs a frame or repair but: I bought it in 1971, so I'm in high cotton, so-to-speak.

I lost my shirt on the sale of my S3, it took a year to sell it and it was in great condition, albeit it was a bit modified.

That car is well known, the former owner belonged to the Elan message board.

As for values......These cars are WAAAY undervalued. When I watch the car auctions, and see Brit cars that can't even come near Elan performance sell for high 5 figures, it makes my head hurt.

Yup.

That's why I kick myself for lettin' the Cortina go. :madder: :wall:

Don't you mean "6" figures?

There are collectable Jags and so on that do fetch 6 figures, but certain mundane roadsters selling for 75-80k (5 figures) was what I was referring to. Beautifully restored cars, yes, but no comparison in performance.
