BASIL - LIVE CHAT

Are you using a firewall? I ususally have to disable mine to log in to variious things...

Ron

He may have downloaded a firewall which he has forgotten about!! I know that therer are things on here which I have forgotten about!!

he may well have one on the network at the school he works at, but I don't think he'd have one at home.

Chuck, I remember a couple of years ago you were talking about getting a remote repair do-mahickey (not the technical name!!

) for your computer. Did you ever do that, and if you did, can you see what he has on his??

no I never did. there is some way to do this in WinXP but I haven't figured it out yet. Tony would never let me into his computer anyway

Sorry for the delayed reply...been out of town - your town in fact! I'm not sure what in the worlkd is going on, but I have to ask, have you tried a different browser (besides the "Almost On Line" (AOL) browser?). For example, do you have MS Internet Explorer you could try? Sorry your having problems.

it is happening to him both at home and at work, 2 different systems. I tried to walk him thru it on the phone and when he clicks on lets chat it takes him back to the log on screen. I think there is something wrong with his registration, although when he logs in I can see him in the chatroom but he never gets to that page.

I just checked my admin section and was expecting to see a userer names either "Tony, Tony Barnhill, or "theAutoist", but only saw one for "autoist." Is there any chance he registered with "autoist" but is trying to log in with "theAutoist" (the name he uses in his signatures?) Just a thought. Otherwise, I'm currently at a loss as to what else might be hapenning.

that could be the problem Basil, could you try to log on as him as I don't know his password and that would be the next thing I would try

Basil:

I've been in the chat with Chuck and a couple others when Tony was in there but, as he said, nothing happened then he left. He WAS in the chatroom though, I can verify that - so the script is working on the server-end, but it's either not cooperating with Tony's machine or Tony's machine isn't cooperating with the script.

I'm waiting to hear the answer to the AOL-browser question, beyond that I would be suspicious of an anti-ad/spam filter or an odd browser configuration.

Ok, well, if he's been in the chat room, then I agree with you - something else (weird) is going on. Need to determine what browser he's using. I always recommend to my friends who use Almost On Line to use the AOL to connect, then minimize it and open something like MS Internet Explorer for their browser. AOL does other strange stuff, like every time you hit a new page, they change your IP address (hmmm...that may be a clue!)

Basil

ordinarily I'd have to agree with you Basil, AOheLL isn't the browser to use but the same thing happens when he tries to log on from the computer at the school he works at, and I doubt they use AOL there. Maybe his parental controls are set too tight. that's why I'd like to try to get in from someplace else. If you know his password, and it is possible you don't, why not try logging on from New Mexico?

I got the same results as Tony. Said that I was not registered and kicked me back to the sign on page. We are both on AOL. Maybe it's an AOL thing, maybe it's a dumb southerner thing, I don't know

WELL, I must be a dummy because it still won't work! I'm back...&, I tried it at home (AOL, on my computer in office (AOL) & on my computer in classroom (NOT AOL & NOT DIAL UP!)...same thing every computer (3 differenct computers, 2 dial-up, 1 not dia-lup!...I sign on (autoist), put in my password (same as I use on forum - didn't change), choose "Tea Room" & click on "Just Chat"...it then says I'm in chat room but puts me back in the loop to do the same thing all over again...on all 3 computers with or without AOL!....and again....and again....ad infinitum!

Guys, I am getting the exact same results as Tony when I try to get into the chat room. I registered, go through the motions, select the Tea room, hit chat then I end back on the sign in page. If I repeat this I get a message telling me there is someome already in there with my name
