Dang it... I posted my sob story on your "$1200" thread about water pump replacement on Thursday.

Friday afternoon my belt tensioner idle pulley gave out.

Ratzenfratzen plastic parts that get CONSTANT stress and use.

Guess what bolts hold on the tensioner assy????

yup. The 4-inch bolts in the 1-inch clearance area.

And me "Mr Big-Shot-Next-Time-I'm-Paying-Someone-Else-To-Do-it-for-me" ????

No way i'm coughing out a thousand bucks to replace a $28 part.

So it is back to jacking up the pinchi engine and pulling off a bunch of motor mounts and accessories to replace the dang thing.

I should have kept my big mouth shut about what a pain in the butt it is to do this job.

The engineers are getting even with me!

eeep. Though it may be a curse to know how to wrench, it would be much worse to be dependent on others for it, IMO. Figuring mechanical/electrical/plumbing repairs and maintenance into the budget as "cost of living" expenses woulda put me in th' pit years ago.

...'course this comes from a control freak with mild OCD and hard-headed beyond reason.

No kidding. I've saved a mind-boggling amount of money on the DIY train and it has definitely been the thing that has kept me afloat back in the lean days. It is not a curse by any means.

And Dale, I'm not sure about the Doc's heritage but I'm a Scot and I resemble that remark! Not sure about the OCD but I've got hard-headed worked into an art-form.

Aye... and in Scotland they talk of Aberdonians...

Scottish humo(u)r

'You should be careful about stereotyping the Scots as mean. There was a recent letter to a newspaper from an Aberdonian which said "If you print any more jokes about mean Scotsmen I shall stop borrowing your paper."'

LOL

"A Scots boy came home from school and told his mother he had been given a part in the school play. "Wonderful," says the mother, "What part is it?" The boy says "I play the part of the Scottish husband!" The mother scowls and says: "Go back and tell your teacher you want a speaking part.""

aye....
