Basil:--Hacked...or something?

Basil: When I try to use my usual link (which shows all the forums) to connect to BCF, I am directed to a different (non-BCF) page that wants me to download something. I got here by using Google and searching for "BCF pub". Anyway, I'll check my computer to see if it's me, but you may wish to see if I'm the only one with this issue.

You are not alone. When I clicked the forum button the same thing happened.

Same here when trying to go to the main forum. I have bookmarks for other parts of the forum, and they work OK.

Same thing here. I just emailed Mickey and Basil, and sent a copy of the re-directed page source. It's a self-generating nest of java scripts linked to a website called www dot trshady dot com which attempts hidden advertising hits.

Bookmarks still work; BCF email notices with links still work. But many links within BCF are affected.

Hope someone takes note.
Tom

Yep, me too.

Yes, we were hacked. Someone replaced the file that is used to display the forums list with a file that just re-directed people to that other site. Now to look at the logs and see the IP of whoever did it so I can block them.

Must not be a concern to those who have bookmarks to the individual forums

It hit me, too. I thought my computer was hacked, so I restarted it. I didn't check the forum until I got to work, and whatever the issue was, it was gone by then.

Me too.... I ran spyware but I'm still have problems. When I went to the BCF page it redirected my to "LinkBucks". I'm operating right now in safe mode. Any clues as to how to get rid of this virus? Help!

It was something on the web server side, not on your local computers. The boss has cleared up the issue so y'all should be fine now.

I'm back on in safe mode... when I started back up in regular mode my CPU went to 100% usage and my computer locks up. Any suggestions?
I did scan my entire system and found nothing.
What can I do to get rid of this nasty?

Thanks JP... will try it in the morning... I've had enough fun with this virus for one day.
Bas- Too bad we can't reciprocate to the individual that hacked into the forum and left us this present :mad-new:

Download MalwareBytes Free from here: https://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/

Install it and update it and set it to scan (which could take a while).

When it's finished set it to remove everything that it has found.

It will pint a log afterward. If you have tried this or it doesn't work there are lots of other suggestions if you Google LinkBucks virus. My go-to remover is ComboFix; use with caution!

Looks like I'm back from the dark side... multiple scans, and a system restore, then reinstall my antivirus.
This whole episode will make me strongly consider a mac.... OK Bas, you can stop grinning.

GAH!!! ELLIOT!!! Just go to LINUX!!!

Malwarebytes, CCleaner, TrendMicro's Housecall... all good.
