I am looking for a book that would explain basic automotive electrics. I have a 71 tr6 with a few minor electrical problems & I have no idea where to start. Anything beyond bulb changing am I am lost. Any help would be appreciated.

You won't find anything better than Dan Masters' "Triumph TR250-TR6 Electrical Maintenance Handbook".

And.........go to AAW (Dan's old company) and download a free copy of the best wire schematic out there. It's what most of us use when troubleshooting electrical problems. The last suggestion is that when you post an electrical question make sure you include your car's model year as the wiring changed from year to year.

I would recommend Haynes "Classic Car Electrical Systems", by Dave Pollard. The Haynes number on the front is H433. ISBN is 859604331

It has a pretty good section on Basic Principles, and then goes through most of the major components (ignition, dynamo/alternator, starter, etc).
