How do you think it will affect the hobby? a question asked by Reid ...

Reid...something similar happened in the "stamp" collection hobby...investors got into the game...people who didn't know better...for a few years stamps when through the roof...prices went crazy...then the bottom fell out...a stamp was worth $3000 one day...was worth only $1500...and it would be hard to find a buyer now that would pay the $1500...

Not sure if the same would happen with cars...but I can see it happening...restored Healey's going for over 100K only to be worth half that in a few years when the idiots that pay that kind of money leave the arena...

I guess the only ones that will be hurt are those that bought high...

I too watched this auction on TV and was amazed at cars that supposedly had $65,000 worth of restoration done to them sell for half that? Or cars that sold as high as they did that had "rust" all over them...

Go figure?

Nope, no joy anwhere about high prices, even find it terribly depressing and dispiriting, same for my house, it is where I live not an investment, the cars are something meaningful that is only demeaned by even talking about them as investments or monetized objects, enthusiast has no overlap with investor.

well there is no one more car advocate than I, but if I pay $40,000. for an ughly box with creature comforts-it doesn't hurt my feelings that someone values a beautiful Austin or Jag or ANYHING with a price tag that astounds people. They have the money and it's their hearts desire-no harm no foul. I honestly believe there are entry levels at all marketplaces and we who are looking to restore a bargain will always to be able to find it- especially with forums like these .........where we reach out to help each other!!. Sorry, but you're just not making any sense. Increasing values, whether it be your car or your house or your cat, is good. Stagnant or declining values is bad. There's nothing I've ever bought that I want to see go down in value. And I can't figure out why increasing values demeans anything. For those of us who have and love our Healeys, it doesn't change anything except that we can get more if and when we sell them then we paid when we bought them. I'll suffer.

Well Scott I have to agree with you somewhat. However, I always find it amusing to watch BJ auctions where after some poor sucker pays an outrageous price for a car everyone CHEERS and claps their hands. Everyone except the buyer who's just realized he's been taken for a ride.
