Barrett-Jackson..back to reality?

Reid: Where is your blog on the B-J auctions? I have looked everywhere.

Thanks Bob. I have taken this year off from Scottsdale auctions. I do plan to return next year though.

I just have so many projects ongoing that something had to give, and I made the last three B-J auctions in Scottsdale so I thought I'd skip it this year.

I'll be sure to post something here when I have some new auction coverage on my currently hibernating blog. Thanks again.

No blog on this this years auction....SPORTS CAR MARKET will have a great story I'm sure. If you have never read this mag I recommend it highly.

I ran across SCM last summer at a local bookstore, and now I read it cover to cover within 2 hours the day it arrives. VERY thorough, as they cover the international auctions as well. In fact, I think Reid wrote an analysis of a BN1 with a Le Mans kit a couple of months ago that I thought sold in England. Two page article if I remember correctly. Great clarification of 100M's and 100's with a kit.

The smaller reviews of individual cars at auctions are informative and often funny. They hold nothing back commenting on overzealous buyers and sellers. Speaking of which, one of the main reasons I watch Barrett-Jackson is observing the amount of money and fools that part ways in Scottsdale each year... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/nonod.gif

These highly restored auction cars got me thinking. Do the shops that do these top of the line cosmetic restorations also rebuild all the mechanicals to the same level? If I tossed down $70K or better for a beautiful car, I would hope all the systems would be like new also, even if I never planned to drive it.
Also, if many cars are finished right before the auction, when do they have time to sort any electrical or mechanical issues?
Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Yes, and not only is it missing a carb nut, where are the choke cables and the brake booster hose?

Where are the engine control linkages?

That is pretty funny. I would guess the photos were rushed for publication before the car was finished. Pushing a car up for auction would not be a good way to start the bidding!
