"Barn Find" D-Type

This is why I always snoop around old barns and sheds…….
______________________________________________

A star attraction of Bonhams' Goodwood Revival Auction on 6 September will be a sensational 'barn discovery' - nothing less than a D-Type Jaguar 'Shortnose' which has lain virtually unused in New Zealand for much of the past 40 years.
Angus Hyslop actually used '534' as his tow-car in between racing it occasionally, securing two second places in further events at Ardmore in 1960 and '61. Later passing through the ownerships of Simon Taylor and Gary Bremer, and as-raced at Pukekohe, Levin, Renwick and Maunganui, '534' was bought by Noel Foster of Auckland on May 12, 1964. The car has been in Mr Foster's family ever since.
At the time of its acquisition by Mr Foster '534's recorded mileage was just 21,737, and today - after negligible use over the past 20 years - it is barely over the 40,000 mark… It has been stored - alone and unused - in a small shed not far from Pukekohe, for some 25 years.
The car is literally a time warp, having been preserved in virtually original condition, as campaigned into the 1960s.

I was just in New Zealand last year, and yes I was snooping around old garages but I missed that one, darn it...

Re: "Barn Find" D-Type

My '62 Mk 2 (awaiting restoration) was a "barn find." The barn wasn't shut up very well and had a dirt floor. The car had set for the past 10 or so years unused and alone. Consequently, the car is rusty, engine is stuck, mouse nests all over, brakes shot, you name it it needs it. But it was cheap! Unless its a D-type or something, the word "barn" should throw up big red flags!

Re: "Barn Find" D-Type

Re: "Barn Find" D-Type

While its not a Jaguar, I found my car in a small weekly newspaper. It had sat in the owners garage for ten years and was mostly disassembled.
It was later found to be one of seven existing mixed models of Austin Healeys that had been specially prepared at the competition works.

Steve;
Pic #3 shows the "Speed Record 'Dash' Plate and a "Jaguar" badge from a hubcap (Nave Plate) "attached" to the wrong places.. and Pic #8 shows some "slightly modified" tail-lights..
Other than that, the Alloy OTS looks to be in pretty good shape.
Given it's one of 250 Alloy 120 OTS's built, you have a winner on your hands.
Congrats on a fantastic find..
