Does any one know if a 77 b has a ballast wire i should be looking for? I know there is no resistor 9least none i have seen- but am wondering about the possibilites of a wire.

yes, a '77 MGB has a ballast wire. It is the pink cloth covered wire that runs forward from the dizzy towards the front of the car inside the harness.
