Bailey, a dog, has joined her sister Irish at the Rainbow Bridge.

When we had to put down Irish in January, we knew the clock was started on her sister Bailey. Bailey hasn't been eating anything the last week and when I took her to the vet yesterday, a blood test revealed she had chronic kidney failure. Three of her blood chemical readings were off the charts bad. The vet said even if they brought her in for treatment it wasn't going to have a long term benefit. My wife and I talked and agreed it was time to let her go. We took her in this morning and were with her the whole time.
When our grand daughters dog and cat leave our home for her new duty station next month, we will be without a dog and/or cat for the first time in 30 some odd years. Think we're going to take a break. We've reached an age that there is a 50/50 chance a new pet would outlive us. Don't want that to happen.
So Bailey has joined Irish, JayBee, Gus, Brandy, Black Linda, Fluffy, Devil and childhood pets of both of us at the Rainbow Bridge waiting for us to arrive.

My deepest, brother, my deepest. I can completely relate to where you are at right now. Couldn't watch the "bucket list dog" story that was on the news tonight. Currently thinking about shipping the new cat out now just to avoid "later on".

I hope the pain of Bailey and Irish's passing will soon fade so that only the happy memories remain.

Oh damm, Bob... We know your concern:

We have our "Last Cat" now, she is such a dolly and approaching 18. The angst over what comes next is heart-wrenching. We've lost the three other family members over the last few years and the thought of bringing even one more into the hovel is near to terror inspiring, for precisely the reason you state. I plant them but they never grow more. We're done. Our hearts can't stand any more.

Bob--

My deepest condolences to you and Jean--I have been there several times and it is a bitch. We owe our pets the task of doing for them what needs to be done--an act of kindness and caring that unfortunately our society does not allow us to do for our fellow humans.

So sorry Bob. I know well how you feel. We lost our little feller going on two years ago now and we still miss him a lot.

Sorry to hear Bob, it is always difficult to say good bye to a good pet.

So, so very sorry. We have out two felines left and face what we do when it is their time. All our Rainbow Bridge pets are in the China cabinet, each represents a loss. I've thought about what I would do and can't imagine not giving a home to a shelter feline or canine. I think I will simply opt for a senior to become a part of our life. Don't think us crazy but we have made a provision in our Will for pet care should we have any at that time. Anyway, so very sorry but don't close the door on scratching the ears if a senior rescue.

You'd be crazy not to.

Lemme know if there is a spot open for the Healey. :jester:
