Bahamas Speed Week Revival - a few places left

As it says on the tin. A new sponsor means the USA package is now $1200 cheaper as the USA/Bahamas shipping is now paid for. Latest date for all paperwork in is mid-November (don't hold me to this but check with the organisers if you're interested) and there are quite a few Healeys now entered as there were in the sixties :cooler:. So issuing a challenge to Healey owners out there with a few dollars in their pockets and a week's worth of holiday left and in the words(ish) of the Bard.

Once more unto the Bahamas Speed Weeks, dear friends, once more;
To test our mettle 'gainst this sun-drenched track.
Whilst in deepest off-season there's nothing so becomes a man
As modest fettling and some polishing:
But when a late autumn blast of competition blows in our ears,
Then imitate the action of the Shelby, Gurney, Moss;
Stiffen the adjustable shocks, summon up the 107 octane,
To be seen to wait like greyhounds in the slips,
Straining upon the start line. The game's afoot:
Watch for the starter and upon this Carribbean circuit. Launch!
Cry 'God for Donald, Detroit, and Saint George!'**

And then with Speed Week over, comes quiet reflection

And he that drove on this Week, and sees old age,
Will yearly on the vigil feast his neighbours,
And say 'Tomorrow is Bahamas Speed Week'
As old men forget; yet all shall be forgot,
But he'll remember, with advantages,
What times he ran that week. Then shall our names be,
Familiar in his mouth as household words-
And in his flowing cups freshly rememb'red.
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he that day that risked his rep, his car, with us
Shall be our brother;
And other tim'rous Healey owners of Europe & America now-at-home
Shall think themselves accurs'd they were not there,
And hold their manhoods cheap while any speaks
That drove with us; at Bahamas Speed Weeks.

Ian,

Did you ever get in touch with Bud?

OH Yes! What a guy. He should be in some Modified Hall of Fame. I'm sure he wouldn't mind me sharing a small excerpt of his building prowess with you.

"I have built all kinds of conversions for customers and myself. They were all street legal except for the Lister. I also did a Sunbeam Alpine with a Chevy engine. a Lister with a Pontiac engine, 3 Healeys with Chevy engines, a Ferrari with a Chevy engine, and a Allard with a Pontiac engine. I have owned 5 Healeys, a 55 & 56 Le Mans, a 58 MM and 59 & 60 3 liters.
I used to build, prepare and sometimes race customers cars of many different makes, they were drag cars, sports cars and race boats.

Ian,

I did give this event some thought, but I saw that they still describe the in car action as "a tour auto" making no reference to multiple car competition or vintage/historic racing. I think I'll wait until they develop a real track and promote this event with a true "historic racing theme". It will be a great time regardless though. For me, if I'm going to prep and ship my race car all that way......then I want to race in it when I arrive. Keep us posted on your experience here. I think it's a great venue.

Dougie,

If it was just an island cruise I wouldn't have bothered!

We have both a timed Sprint and Hillclimb and the improvements to the track means there will be 6 car 'demonstration' races. It will probably be more compeitive in future but my window was this year and I get to hang out with Stirling Moss!

The 007 Island Tour may also be a hoot as they suspend traffic laws for Speed Week cars and I hear the trick is to lose your police outriders.

Cheers,

Ian

You'll have a great time. We'll expect a full report to help get more US entries in the future.
