Bahamas Question - Mike Pennell or anyone else

Friends, this year my family is taking a cruise to the Bahamas. We are leaving out of Baltimore and will be in Nassau for a day. As we look at the excursions, we are interested in the "Swim with Dolphins" option. We also realize that locally sourced excursions can often be significantly cheaper than booking through the Cruise Line. So, here is what we have found:

Blue Lagoon dolphin swim $197 pp. (from cruise ship)
Blue Lagoon dolphin swim $185 pp. (booked directly)
Atlantis Dolphin Swim $236 (booked directly)

Anyone have any other input? Mike? Let me also say that we are totally open to ideas other than a dolphin swim - so, if you did something awesome there <that can be confessed to > feel free to suggest it. Thanks all!!

The Atlantis Hotel has a 6 story water slide that shoots you through a shark pool. You go by so fast, you never see the sharks.

Here's my read on cruises... perhaps tainted by the fact I live in Florida. Let the cruise itself be the highlight of the trip. Enjoy the ship and all that it has to offer. Nassau is just another tourist trap for cruisers, as are all ports of call. Don't fall for the jewelry, perfume, rare gems, etc, pitches. Lay back, have a drink with an umbrella, and watch the kids wear the pool out.
I wouldl say Atlantis is pretty neat, but the casino killed me. :grumpy:

Thanks for responses so far, and thanks DART for the offer, will keep you posted. Lukens, we did live in Florida and have cruised frequently. So, yes, the cruise is the highlight and have been to the stores in Nassau already (and the same ones in St. Thomas, and St Martin and Cozumel etc. etc.) Still, with the dolphins thing - it is something we can't do here. (Oh and the "kids" are 21 and 26 so they are at least as likely to wear out the bar ;) (one anyway))

Saw the swim/dolphin thing in Mexico. That one was a rip and borders on cruelty. Dolphins in a waist deep pool right on the edge of the shoreline. The best tours are booked local. They last longer and treat you better from what I've heard (and tend to be cheaper too).

last time I was in the Bahamas it was at Taino beach(my bil has a timeshare there) and I rented a Boston whaler from the next beach and hired the young fellow who helped on the ferry that goes from Taino beach to port Lucaya to show us around on the whaler and it was better than any tour. he took us to an area where the starfish breed, the dolphins play around your boat, did some fishing and we had a picnic lunch on a small island and then he took my son conch diving. Great experience that I would not have missed for the world Also the local village near taino beach has a fish fry once a week all along the beach and all I can say about that is AWESOME.

Nassau is for the tourist unless the speed week revival is still on.
