Badges

BTW, the RAC ain't no slouch as far as car clubs go: membership dues for the Royal Auto Club are currently 2,600 GBP for entry fee PLUS the annual 1,125 GBP suscription fee. So, it's 3,725 GBP for the privelege of proudly (and of course, honestly) displaying a RAC badge on your LBC! :yesnod:

So, if you are serious and wish to "earn" your RAC badge in a traditional, English gentlemanly fashion, pony up 3725 GBP (<span style="font-weight: bold">$6,049.40 </span>U.S. at today's rate) for your RAC membership. Sadly, tho', you'll also have to also purchase the RAC badge and maybe a badge bar, but that's only a hundred quid extra, or so. :cryin:

But don't despair! There's also an "out of town" membership available at a reduced rate for the lucky folks who live within 150 miles "as the crow flies" from London.

What a deal! I wonder what the weather's like in London next week???

Hey it is the ROYAL Automotive Club. Maybe we should get together and form the Plebeian Auto Club. Of course it may not have the same level of respectability.

Dang! I had my badges way under priced!

TOC,
The Silent service, It always had my respect. My older cousin was the commander of the service for many years. ONe of the few relatives I had that I respected even when I was a hippie.

This thread made me think of this:

Perfect, Basil. And Bogart, no less!

It's interesting that the quote always used by people is "Badges? We don't need no stinking badges!" But if you listen that is not what the guy actually says.

That's a quote from another movie. Can't remember the name of it now. Hmmmm.

Generally, I tend to agree that to display a club badge one should belong to the club. That said, however, LBCs with club badges affixed do look "right"! I only display one badge on mine, one handed down to me by my Dad (who was a member) of the now defunct club, The Royal Greek Auto Club (Greece abolished the monarchy back in 1967). It is a cool badge that just looks right(even with the patina!)

That's a really beautiful badge, Mike, and IMHO, earned by your Dad and perfectly kosher to display on your car.

Never seen one of those, quite rare, I'm sure.

Cool. :yesnod:

I just noticed this thread......

~My MGB~ has badges from two parts of Ireland: <span style="font-style: italic">Kilkenny</span> (where I used to live) and <span style="font-style: italic">Cavan</span> (where my family is from). *Earned* of a fashion, I suppose. I need to improve the mounting of them....<span style="font-style: italic">another</span> Winter project.

My race car has at least 60 tech stickers (mostly on the roll cage), but they're all earned.

I do like the RAC badge, but I don't have to worry about the moral dilemma of mounting one on my car.
They're expensive and I'm too cheap. :jester:

Don't confuse the Royal Automobile Club and RAC plc, the motoring club it used to own, and whose entry fees are much more modest! The club is very posh.

Nice hat, Nial.

I look like a guy from Pennsylvania.

~This~ is a better picture of it (standing on ice over 30' of water)

I know this is really thread drift, but the official badge of my family has fish on it, if that helps.

The badge bar from my dad's car is one of my most treasured things. It has the following badges on it:

A.C.C - Automobile Club du Cameroun.
Automobile Club de la Province d'Alger
CCCA - Classic Car Club of America
A.C.O - Automobile Club De L'Oranie
The Veteran Car Club of Great Britain
ANWB - Koninkluke Nederlandsche Toeristenbond
BARC
AA
Rolls Royce Owners Club
RAC
The Vintage Sports-Car Club

I know for certain he was a member of at least 4 of those and knowing my dad very well may have belonged to the rest. In time it will find a home on my car.

Here is a picture of the bar - sorry it's fuzzy.

when i bought my car it had 4 badges afixed, i dont have anything against them but do feel they distracts from the cars original intended design features, gave them away to other healey owners that like them, the nicest one was a "fire breathing dragon" netherlands?, i gave it to my good friend "keoke", he told me he gave it to a friend of his, i later found out he actually sold it for $40.000.00. :jester:

Where ~IS~ keoke, BTW? Conspicuous in his umm... absence.
