I've been contemplating wide angle zoom to more or less complete my kit and it has come down to the Canon RF 14-35 f/4 or the much more expensive RF 15-35 f/2.8. Frankly, I'm leaning towards the 14-35 because, for what I shoot (mostly landscapes), the extra stop of light probably isn't worth the additional $800! Beside, I have a Rokinon 14mm manual focus for milky way photos which works like a champ.
The reason I put "bad timing" in 'my subject line is that the Canon Refurb store, for the longest time had the refurbished RF14-35 (retail new = $1399) selling for $999. I was really tempted to pull the trigger, but then I thought "Memorial Day is right around the corner, so maybe I'll wait to see if there are any further reductions on price for the typical Memorial Day sales." Well, Memorial Day came, and I went to see if the price had changed for this lens. It did change! It went from $999 to $1249! Arggggg! I should have pulled the trigger when I had the chance. Oh well, maybe there will be some good sales around Christmas time.
